I think the real question with impact drivers is when are they going to make an adapter strong enough to handle what these tools already put out.
@operator8014

I'd like a ⅜" square drive impact like this. Mancaver tools did a project where they swapped a ⅜" anvil onto an impact driver, and it seemed to me like the perfect tool.

@@operator8014 * agree with this! I think a small or modified 3/8" impact would be the better solution.

They will start a new line of 5/16 or 3/8, essentially gaining 20 - 50% strength with the larger diameter

Why would you want to stress your 1/4 hex collet beyond 150ft/lb anyways? Isn’t that why 3/8 and 1/2 impact wrenches exist? People want to remove lug nuts with their impact drivers but then cry because the bit dances and wobbles like crazy while driving screws

@@riba2233 stronger under no load and maybe for the first 5 minutes. I’ve owned 6 xgt tools for over a year now, use them daily and HARD. Under load there is no comparison, the 4.0 is the better battery. Also the 2.5 ah battery lasts about 30% as long as the 4.0 battery under heavy load. The testing done with the batteries is always done under optimal conditions ie brand new batteries fresh off the charger, at room temperature. Things don’t work like that out in the field. The tools work just fine with the 2.5 ah batteries, but when the sun is beating down and the batteries are hot before they go on the tool and you need to do heavy repetitive work, the advantages of the 21700 cells in the 4.0 battery to be able to push out unrelenting performance is undeniable.

Being a dedicated Milwaukee guy , I give huge Kudos to Makita....... personally I truly believe they are better than Milwaukee in a lot of ways. However , these impact drivers in my opinion are just getting to damn sophisticated. Yes having options is very nice but just put a few modes on and learn to use your finger to control the tool. As always a great informative vid....

Conveniently, you can just ignore the programmed modes and toggle through the four speeds...literally...with your trigger finger. Spot the little button over the trigger. All of the flagship models have it (LXT and XGT). It’s rad. That said, being a dedicated Makita guy, I give huge kudos to Milwaukee. They are better than Makita many areas.

Nope i don't think it does only speed settings and its sensorless motor so dont think it could have that capability like makita impacts have sensors on motors which means more data sense the electronic values with speed and torque other out my ability stuff im not a electrical engineer lol sensorless is stupid just for speed . I imagine the makita sensors on motor detects the power rotation of motor speed and current draw of a certain amount with diffrent settings makes the tool shut off 👍👍battery to tool communications same as lxt ones

What if they made a monster 120v impact? It would have to be like a backpack with three XGT’s in them with a cord going from the backpack to the tool. Similar to EGO and their landscaping backpacks and a mix with Metabo and the cord adapter but without plugging it into the wall. This would be some power!

Isn't it a dumb question to ask "Do you really need 40 volts for an impact driver"? Well the answer is simple, just look to the past. It wasn't long ago that our power tools operated on 120 volts in North America and 240 volts in Eur. With higher voltages, current draw will be reduced for the equivalent wattage (and HP) of the tool. The lesser current draw, will increase run time on batteries.
@willng34
@willng34 3 жыл бұрын
With AC that’s the case, but while the current draw is less on the tool, it remains same on the batteries, because now you have 10S1P vs 5S2P on the 20V. Total power consumption remains the same, however the efficiency is increased with lower current flowing in the electronics, motor, and wiring. Less current = less voltage sag. My 12V tools doesnt last half as long as my 20V tools, despite having 60-70% the Wh rating and being weaker.
@corin164
@corin164 3 жыл бұрын
@@willng34 Not sure what 10S1P and FS2P means. Please clarify?
@willng34
@willng34 3 жыл бұрын
@@corin164 Makita 2.5Ah 40V consist of 10x 2.5Ah 18650 cells in series, this is a known as a 10S configuration, the 18/20V uses also 10x 2.5Ah cells, but in 2 parallel sets of 5 in series, making it 5S2P. If the tool draws 400W then the load is distributed into 40W each cell, no matter how they are configured. What changes is that now the tool operates at twice the voltage and half the current, increasing the runtime and efficiency. So, the 40V line of tools is not actually a newer battery technology because all they did was change the wiring. The real technology is in the tool itself, being 40V it is harder and more expensive to build because most off the shelf DC electronic components are designed to operate between 5-24V.

While I get that they opted not to have backwards compatible batteries for their 18v line I think they should of made the charger backwards compatible. For smaller single batt tools like the impact driver and hammer drill the 40v is overkill and die hard Makita people that have the 18v tools and buy into the 40v line for the larger tool offerings they would not need to have separate chargers on the jobsite if the 40v charger was designed to charge both while they still use the 18v and the 40v line.

@Fictitious_Character 2 жыл бұрын
@@mjp8415 That's very true as of right now I haven't seen any good sales on the 40v line. There's only a couple tools so far that would make me add the 40v line. The Track saw looks nice but seems to be just marginally improved and I was going to buy the 8-1/2 40v miter saw last November but with a lead time of expected 02/25/22 I opted to add the 7-1/4 Milwaukee as I am also on that platform. While I believe the 40v is a nicer miter saw the Milwaukee saved me a few hundred, and was readily available, so I was able to put it to work months ago. As to the XT288T for 195 it is a solid kit and that's a solid price to buy at. For impacts and drills I don't see much advantage to the 40v line as the battery packs are bulkier. jmo though as everyone has different needs.
