I will have to admit I have been building models for many years and these days I air brush everything but this channel taught me using traditional spray paints work just as well or better than the tiny over priced Model Master or Testor spray paints I thought I had to use coming up in this hobby.
@acrowe25123 жыл бұрын
I have watched a lot of Chris's builds and agree with you. At this point I use spray cans, like Rustoleum 2x to prime all the parts, then I airbrush the colors I want on (mainly the body parts, and lately with acrylics) and hand paint the rest where masking all of these little parts would be a total pain. It's working out pretty well but I did have to "cut down on the coffee" so my hands would be more trustworthy while hand painting. Chris is blessed with a very steady hand and I realized how much of an advantage that gives you so you don't have to mask and airbrush every little thing. Also it helps to have some very tiny brushes and a good set of magnifiers, especially at my age. Well worth the investment. Thanks to HPI Guys I've also discovered that you can use cheap craft paints to airbrush even the body with. A couple of coats of "future" floor polish makes them look just as good as enamels in my opinion, so even that's fairly cheap. Yeah, ya don't have to spend a fortune on model paint, nor a fortune on spray cans either. I'm only talking cars and trucks though, not replica military models.

So I picked this model up in hopes to build and send it off to my dad for Father’s Day. Thank God I ran into this video! You make it so easy with your steady surgeon hands. Hopefully I could pull this off. In the 1980s, when Porsches were reasonably priced, my dad had a 1972 911T Targa and later sold it for a 1978 911SC, so I’m sure he would love this 1984. I personally owned a 1974 911 as well, so yeah, this model will be perfect. Thanks again for this video, you earned yourself a new subscriber, I look forward to watching more and learning more!

Why do you like the Rusto paint? I've tried it after discovering your channel and I really liked it aswell but what made you start using it?
@urbanurchin59303 жыл бұрын
He did a video on this a few years ago. The main reason was the cost. The small Testors ( or similar ) rattle cans usually run about $6 to $11 each. You can buy a large can of very similar quality and coverage at Wal-Mart or other discount stores, for about $3.99. As you can see - he gets good results.
@boss9mustang4043 жыл бұрын
Yep. I watched that video and that's how I learned to paint a car with Rusto. Good stuff but modeling snobs get pissed off when you get show-quality shine with Primer, Paint, then Clear instead of Insane wet-sanding, then 4 super thin coats of primer, all wet sanded then 5 coats of paint, all wet sanded then clear, then polishing and buffing and all that shit(those numbers were exaggerated but you get the idea). sure they look AWESOME after all that but I aint got time fo' dat!

I have a Fujimi ( Japan ) 911 Carrera 2 in my stash. It is basically a curbside and is not nearly as nice as this Revell example. The one positive on the Fujimi kit is that the body comes pre-painted and has a very nice finish. Still, I would rather have the engine and suspension detail of this Revell kit. A little trick that I often use : When I paint vehicles red - I use a brush to paint the backsides of the tail light housings white - that way, the color of the tail light lens does not get lost in body color.

Hi Chris, first off, beautiful work on this kit! I e seen a few of your videos and you do some really great work! Question for you… I’m currently building the Fujimi 930 enthusiast kit #2 and, in the last, I’ve always painted my 911 chassis flat black. Now that I’m older and more into authenticity, I want to paint this one the body color, as I know that’s how Porsche did it. How did you get that look on your’s that gives it that matte look that you can still see the black through it? Almost “weathered”, for lack of better terms. Being that you use spray cans, I’d imagine I can do it since I use spray cans and don’t have an airbrush. Thanks for your time!
@hpiguy2 жыл бұрын
I show the painting process on video in the spray paint section. That's how I do it. Thanks!

Looks like sport recaros from the other seats options. Too bad they didn’t put in the 85- 4 spoke wheel and only the 3 point 84 one ( old fujimi kit did ). Also would have loved a tail as they added the front spoiler which only comes with the rear. Other than that, I can build a mini version of my car!

Really nice kit, love the engine especially. I was amazed that you could build so much of it before paint. Nice shine too. "Future" I assume? How many coats? Did you polish it as well? I really didn't think the front wheels would still be steerable in the end but they were! Amazing. So did you chrome the headlight pans before putting the lenses in? I didn't see what you did with them. Sorry if I missed it, was cooking dinner as I watched.... You are a master builder.
