@@standbae Speaking of race, which race on earth that is more consistent as far as physical features appearance go? Look at the Chinese-looking people be it the Inuits of Greenland, the Nenets of Siberia, natives of Alaska, the Mongolians, Tibetans, Manchurians, Koreans and Japaneses, their eyebrows are consistently away and above their upper eyelids. For the males, I would say they are 99.9% consistent, and for females (X -chromsomes), 100% consistent. As a human species, at least the Chinese ancient pictures portrayed how a Chinese look like thousands of years ago, can you say the same of Jesus Christ, was he bearded or was he black? I would say Chinese history is more consistent in depicting their appearances and facts rather than saying more logical.

@@Justalazyduck I am an Chinese living in USA for 25 years, being fluent in both Chinese and English, I can tell that it is very hard for a westerner to learn Chines. Chinese is a different language from western languages, western ones are alphabetical language, Chinese, on the other hand is an character language, like a picture. For example, mountain, 山, look like the rolling peaks. Some chinese characters can get very complex, like sneeze, 嚏. To be honest with you, without copying, I cannot write out 嚏. Western language, to me they are more similar, being understand English, I found out that it is not hard to get an glimpse of Spanish, German, French. So there is no shortcut on learning Chinese, try to remember all these characters (kind of picture). On the simple part, Chinese is a very assemble friendly 😄😄language. Fro example, when we talk about the floating vehicles, there are many, many and they all are not related, like boat, ship, (oil) tank, (aircraft) carrier, kayak, conee, battleship, cruiser, destroyer and on and on, each of these has to occupy one brain memory cell. For Chinese it is much simpler, 舟 general water vihecle, 独木舟 (canoe) 船 civilian water vihecle, 邮船, 帆船, 游船 舰 military ship, 巡洋舰(cruiser), 驱逐舰 (destroyer) So in Chinese, you only need to remember three characters, 舟 船 舰 and by combination, you could assemble all these words, they occupy much less memory of your brain. Chinese is hard, but we learn it not because it is easy, we learn it because it is interesting, plus Chinese food is better, right? Enjoy your journey.

This documentary is inaccurate, if not misleading, especially on the Ancient China. Please refer to the 'Records of the Grand Historian' by Sima Qian for an accurate Ancient Chinese history. 'The Records of the Grand Historian' was a compulsory read for the Chinese scholars until the Qing dynasty was overthrown in 1912.

There is a fundamental mistake in this video, which is how to define Chinese people. Westerners have a significant misunderstanding in that they believe Chinese people are only the Han ethnicity, which is not the case. Chinese people refer to all ethnic groups living in China, including the Han, Manchu, Mongolian, Hui, and so on. All Chinese people are also collectively referred to as the Chinese nation or the Huaxia nation. Individuals whose ancestors were once Chinese but who have become citizens of other countries can still be referred to as part of the Chinese nation, but not as Chinese people. It is important to understand that Chinese people refer to nationals of the country, while the Chinese nation refers to a concept that encompasses cultural heritage and bloodlines.

12:11 history always reminds me that "China" is more like the throne not the person sitting on it, it can be overthrown from the inside or conquered from the outside, but even when it's overthrown or conquered it is not destroyed. The Subjugator might force their identities their culture (even their DNA) onto China but at the same time, China seeps into them, until eventually, they've become the next China, more nuanced and more expansive than the last, recognisably different, yet in some ways, same as it's always been.

The Qin dynasty was considered a truly unified dynasty in China's history. The Zhou dynasty was very similar to the Holy Roman Empire of Europe where a loosely integrated union of German states and city-states under the supreme rule of an emperor. This is why Qin Shi Huang or Emperor Shi who conquer all the other six states of the warring states period is considered the first Chinese Emperor.

Great video just wanna voice out a few inaccuracies I've observed. 1) The imperial examination system was first introduced in the Han dynasty, under Wu Emperor 汉武帝 2) The period after Tang dynasty was not immediately the Song dynasty but rather it went into another turbulent period known as Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms (五代十国).

You missed to mention the short-lived Zhou dynasty that followed Tang dynasty which was ruled by Wu Ze Tian. China's first and only empress. During her period China flourished, however due to her gender, other forces rose against her. Pretty much tarnished her good deeds with her wrong decisions. Her story is wonderful.

But they don't share the same language. A shared written language, sure, but the local "dialects" act more like separate but related languages. Which is actually how the Romance languages were for a long time, they were spoken very differently but would all be written like Latin even after the Roman Empire for a few hundred years. Hmm...... Qin shiwang may seem brutal in one aspect but in my opinion he was one of the greatest emperors if not the greatest till this day, he did what was necessary to unite a nation or bring concept of unification to future rulers who had never imagine possible. we called it shihuangdi, if you know really know Chinese language you would know how much we appreciate him for his effort.

Initially it was Yu's father Gong who tried with dams (to stop water) but failed after 9 years, then Yu took this father's role and tried with channels and eventually succeeded after another 13 years. Recently I saw a research which claims that, the flooding may just last for around 22 years, so maybe the flood was not really tamed but faded naturally by itself. 22 years is approximately 2 solar cycles, i think that may suggest something.

Hey sir, I must say this video was very informative for me as a Chinese. Learnt a few new Chinese words (my Chinese isn't exactly the best in class) and learnt a lot about Chinese history. I've recently been very addicted to Qing history and I regularly scribble Manchu under the table during lessons. I read about the various execution methods and saw 凌迟was apparently first mentioned in Liao Dynasty sources. Could you do a video on the Liao Dynasty? I think they are pretty interesting as the Khitan people are pretty much gone and so is the language and culture. Thanks!

Very impressive summary of Chinese history. I would say it’s worth mentioning that it was in the Tang Dynasty that women gained a lot of freedom, and were allowed to dress in non-conservative styles, and the only female emperor came to power during this period.
