Hello sir, would you be able to kindly explain to me how and why you drew the graph for question 9 (a) (iii)? I don't understand what a repeated root is and why the cubic crosses the axis twice? Thank you so much in advance. The question is at about 16:00
@GingerMathematician3 ай бұрын
A repeated root means that the polynomial can be factored in such a way that one of the factors is repeated (in this case, that factor is x-2). A repeated root causes the graph to touch the x-axis without crossing it because the function flattens out at that point, meaning it reaches zero but doesn't change direction (sign) as it would with a single root.

@fortaang1145 Жыл бұрын

Hi Mr G, I have a question to clarify. Which key words I should look out for to understand they want me to differentiate when they don't ask directly (eg 11:37 the part c (i) asked clearly for it). But when it comes to the question at 17:44, how should I know they want differentiation? I guess I'm missing the pattern so that's why I'm not entirely confident on when I should be doing differentiation :(

i also want to know the key words

Mr G, are the keywords two: 'gradient' & 'turning points/stationary points'? but then what about @17:35? what's the keyword from there that tells you to do differentiation?
@GingerMathematician2 жыл бұрын
Exactly those 😊👍

@@vaelinlovewee3300 yes pls mr G, let us know that how can we identify differentiation in that 7 mark question at 17:35

Paper 4 tmr 🫡 Thank you so much for these videos which have helped me a lot! Selected students for extended maths here JUST got selected last term (about 4 months ago) and we had to rush through the extended part of the syllabus, so thank you so much for this 🙏👏

Thank you!! I've been going through past papers and I find it difficult when to identify a question is asking for differentiation because the wordings VERY different from my textbook questions :(( this video helped me grasp some sort pf understanding!!! thank you!! js one question, so when they ask us to find the coordinates of the turning point or two stationary points the gradient will ALWAYS be 0?
@GingerMathematician Жыл бұрын
Exactly turning point -> derivative is zero 👍

@16:20 sir why do we have to bend the curve,in a normal cubic curve it doesn’t bend
@GingerMathematician11 ай бұрын
y = x^3 has no "bend" so to speak but most cubic graphs do have some kind of clear bend in the function

my maths paper 4 i literally in 4 hours lol but i wanted to ask, on 24.07 why did u use the diffrentiated equation instead of the actual equation????
@GingerMathematician Жыл бұрын
Because we want to work out the gradient of the function :-)

Sir can you please explain why did you substitute the (2,6) twice in the equation at 24:06
@GingerMathematician8 ай бұрын
Once to work out the gradient and once to find the equation of the straight line
