Here is the actual tips. First get your dipping sauce ready, order a beaverage if you want, preferably something "cooling" like sprite. Not sure if there is an actual term for this, basically hotpot is a very "heating rising" food so you drink something cool to lower the heat, same way westerners eat salads before their heavy duty entree. Second, go for some bites of fruits first, while you wait for your hotpot. To wet your appetite. This is like the "appetizer". Third, go for the meats and seafood. This will be your main entree. Fourth, go for veggies, maybe add some noodles or rice (in reality hotpot isn't particularly filling since you arent consuming rice, noodles, or bread. If you plan to not be hungry in a few hours, do that) this is like the after meal, to cleanse your palate. And if you can still stomach more food, go get more fruit or other dessert like ice cream, jelly, or whatever. And if you are Chinese, go pay the bill. Don't embarrass your ancestors and let someone else slip away with paying the bill.
