Omg Garrett, that was almost half an hour of snake genetics/behavior/housing/handling auctioneering wildness!. I feel like I've toured the whole island chain, plus. After that, Thomas needs to let his ears sit down for a rest. Great job following all that drawer and cage action Thomas! Mad skills with the focus!

Let’s GOOOOOO! You need to make more of this content! Love the off the cuff style through the snake room. Best of luck for 2022 season! Can’t wait to grab some babies this season. 🙏🐍❤️

The calico male is just so gorgeous! Could have watched Garrett talk about the breedings and showing his snakes for a good while longer and I'm not even planning on breeding snakes myself (way too unexperienced). I have all my hopes for 2022 being a better year and by what's to expect from RoR it already looks like a really promising year. :D All the best for the breedings and clutches and Happy New Year!

Karsten is a great guy. I'm fortunate enough that I was able to pick mine up personally at his place. A new morph which he is working on, Slivermoon is jaw dropping (and is a dwarf).

I loved watching this, I'm slowly learning more and more about retics over the past few months. Just got my first one last month, a GC sunfire het anthrax female juvenile. I know she's gonna be a big girl, and after watching a whole slew of your videos, I'm really impressed with your knowledge and presentation. Keep up the great work! On a somewhat related note, I had in mind the future possibility of breeding her to a "dwarf" or "superdwarf" (I know, I know, marketing scheme and all that). With her already having two of my most favorite morphs, but knowing that "super" GC is a huge no-no, and with her being het anthrax, I have been scouring the internet looking for a male D/SD anthrax or sunfire anthrax. I haven't found anything as of yet, and figured I'd ask you here. Have you seen or heard of any dwarf or superdwarf anthrax retics, specifically males?
@ReachOutReptiles
@ReachOutReptiles 2 жыл бұрын
Dwarf and SD Anthrax don’t exist yet, but since she is 100% mainland, you probably want to start with a pure SD

I agree on your statement about wild caught NOT being anywhere near ideal. Almost 2 years ago I purchased a wild caught BCC Suriname (honestly only did this so that she wouldn't get stuck with a breeder and tossed in a rack and forced food, pushed to breed to early) I do breed some balls but didn't want her for that. I've kept snakes for over 25 years and having this wild caught has been a completely 100% different then captive, I've had to learn everything from scratch it feels like. I kept her in quarantine for 11 months, and the most frustrating part is she didn't eat ONCE for me for 11.5 months. Now all is great but someone with little experience wouldn't have ended so great. They belong exactly where they come from, not taken

How often do you interact with your retics? I own a platinum tiger retic about 2 years old, he never struck at me outside his tank but he still has a pretty strong tank aggression. I ALWAYS use a hook, you're able to open these enclosures and your retics never strike. Can you please give me a tip?........p.s I live in pittsburgh, got my platty tiger from George @ Off the Hook Reptiles!

Do you or anyone you know do pure selayer clutches? I've been following your pairings for few years hoping to see some pure selayers. Probably one of my favorite localities along with my ternate. I'd also like to see those pure tombolongans. Those look gorgeous.

That is so awesome to hear! I know I've been on a wait list for a female selayer with you since last season, but started losing hope because I see everyone moving to kalatoa, madu, and karompa. So I started looking into some more localities, but couldn't find any others that I like as much as the selayers. Thought about going for a tombolongan when I saw you were pairing them, but I would still much rather hold out for the selayer, and I would rather hold out to get one from you. Their color saturation and patterning is just amazing.

@11:17 Can snakes really differentiate human gender? What would the selective pressure be to evolve innate instinct to determine the gender of a different species?
@ReachOutReptiles
@ReachOutReptiles 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, and they are a male/ female species, so it’s likely not all that different for them (just as it is for many dogs, or other domesticated animals).
@JoeSReptiles
@JoeSReptiles 2 жыл бұрын
@@ReachOutReptiles Yes, I know they can determine the gender of each other, probably based on pheromones. It seemed like you implied the male snake could sense or knew you are a male human. I think I misunderstood. I love your videos.

Your captive bred don't seem to be great fans of humans either. Bit sad really that so many opportunities for meaningful interaction are being missed. Also stop defending your husbandry-own it.
@ReachOutReptiles
@ReachOutReptiles 2 жыл бұрын
We are moving very fast here for this video- not the best for judging interaction or personality, this video was for information… lots of it. And I think you’re confused, probably because of the way I explained things with no edits, with a lot on my mind… if I owned my husbandry, I WOULD be defending it. To me, it always seems more like I’m apologizing for it (even though it’s the reality of the current standard for commercial keeping/ breeding). No, I am looking to IMPROVE both my husbandry and the standard. It’s hard work, but we are making big steps in that direction. First was buying a bigger place. Next? Stay tuned.
