In today's video, we talk about every single piece of gear that I could spot, and identify in Bo Burnham's newest Netflix special: Inside. There's a ton of lights, cameras, lenses, mics, keyboards, and other creative tools used to create this existential masterpiece.
As a videographer/youtuber/musician, I figured I'd make a video on all of the pieces of equipment that I could find in case anyone was wondering what kind of gear he was using. Most of the stuff is surprisingly affordable and can be found on Amazon in the links below. I'll try to place them in the same order as listed in the video for convenience.

yo man, i really loved this breakdown. went here because iwas so curious about the spotlights. in Comedy the edges of the spotlights are red and blue. when he freaks out about having worked on the special for a year the background is the sunset wiht clouds that i just assumed it was the projector, but when he knocks everything over he bumps into the big stage spotlight and the background moves, so he somehow managed to project the sunset with the spotlight (i still have no idea how he did this) same for Goodbye with the moon,it looks like it's from the spotlight, and i have no idea how it could be, maybe he projected onto the spotlight but how come we dont see any black borders nor anyhing as the black projectors give isn't pure black. I havent been able to wrap my head around how he did those 2 shots. Anyway thanks for this video, it was really great.

Thanks!!! I actually didn’t even notice the background moving during the freak out, and just assumed it was the projector. That’s a really good catch! I had to go and re-watch it because I needed to know what was going on too. Lol. It looks like the light he hits is one of the Leko lights and you can buy screens/filters for them called Gobos. I googled “sky Leko Light Gobo” and several popped up, as well as a few moon ones, so I’m guessing that’s how those shots were made. The moon was super bright and defined, which would be explained if it was a more powerful light like the Leko. The projector probably wouldn’t be as sharp, and bright with as much contrast as the Leko. Really good catch Añez!

@@RobRabonPhotog yeah that's what i figure, but i just discarded the gobos as it had multiple colorsm iguess it just used color filters to do it. but yeah it's amazing how much detail you can get when you thoroughly analize the special

Does anyone have any idea why Bo switches between the SM58 and the RE20? I can't understand why he wouldn't use the RE-20 on every song that requires a mic stand?
@ryanfletcher9861
@ryanfletcher9861 Жыл бұрын
I’m assuming because of the ridiculous amount of gain the RE-20 requires compared to a 58. Probably able to get it to cut a bit harder. But hell idk. Could have just said fuck it eventually just so he’s not juggling mics, being a different mount system

Looks like the Martin is a 00 or 000 - its hard to tell if its a full-gloss or satin model given the lighting. If its a full-gloss, I'd guess is from the 18 series, judging from the black binding.

Good point. I guess he could’ve used a 13”, but was thinking it might be the bigger model since it doesn’t look tiny while he’s using it. I think he’s like 6’5” or something. Kinda hard to guess proportions just from the video.

@@RobRabonPhotog I think you're right, actually. Apple released a 16" in 2019, but relaunched a newer model in 2021. Plus, I doubt a 13" would be able to handle the 4K/6K footage.

Hi! I'm still working on my Inside diorama! I am curious whether anyone knows what the mixer thing is that he uses - it shows when he does the "welcome to whatever this is, all of it will be filmed in this ruhm" intro and it pans over to the room, and on the side table is a rectangular black mixer thing (I don't know what it's actually called). I'd like to make it, but could sure use some clues on the model so I can get dimensions. Thanks for any sleuthing, thanks for reading either way!
