I think by the end, Bran wasn't even human enough to be held to standards of compassion and empathy. I think he saw so much, knew so much, existed at such a scale that one human life was barely a blip in his radar. Using Hodor as a pack mule - yeah, that's just him being a privileged kid doing what was deemed normal in the messed up world he grew up in. But by the time Hold The Door was a thing, he was barely human enough for it to matter. I don't say this as a way of condoning his actions - I think he existed beyond condoning or condemning. That is NOT a good thing. If you knew everything in the history of the universe, if you could look forward and back as easy as stepping over a puddle and knew every repercussion of the littlest action - and if, before being given that power, you were a privileged child with limited knowledge and depth and worldview - it would be very, very, VERY easy to see individual people as just barely pawns in whatever larger game only you could wholly see, because you a) knew the ends to every mean with enough surety to feel it was justified and b) were unconsciously taught your whole life to see most people as disposable, and didn't grow old enough to consciously unlearn that before being given this power. In short, putting him on the iron throne is a very, very, VERY bad idea.

There is a strong difference between madness and evil. Evil characters know what they’re doing is wrong and don’t care, while insane people don’t understand that what their doing is wrong. Ramsey is an evil character. He knows that what he does is wrong, but he just doesn’t care. The Mad King is insane because he believes there’s nothing wrong with what he does. He cannot comprehend the world around him, so when he destroys perceived threats, he doesn’t see it as wrong.

Not condoning twincest, but Jamie and cersi being twins is not worse than normal siblings in regards to faulty genetics. They aren't identical (as proven by their gender) so their genes are equally different as any other sibling. It is however interesting that they didn't produce kids with dwarfism, considering those genes are most likely in the family. Biologist musings done, I'll continue with your interesting video.

It's interesting that Tyrion is such an oddity, and at no point it is ever mentioned that there has been other dwarfs in the family. He was a very young kid during the cat accident so he couldn't go on a regular hunt, and he's a king, a king isn't going to go kill a random kid themself. You would hire someone else to do it. Second of all, we're starting the story once Joffrey is about 13 years old. No one has the time to go over every single possible moment where Jofffey tried to please Robert in the 13 years before the start of ASOIAF, especially not in a story as dense as GOT. Finally, no one is trying to defend or justify him. Literally where did I say "In Joffrey's defense-" ? No where. I never said or implied anything of the such. I said I felt sad for him. I would have to disagree with Androw a bit. Although I agree he was mad and his murders were inexcusable and evil, I think his actions deserve a bit more context. Rhaena’s many ‘friends’ were well-known to be her lovers and she showed no restraint in her liaisons and in shaming him in front of her entire court on multiple occasions. Rhaena was notoriously cold and even her own daughter didn’t enjoy her company and chose to run away on a dragon. Additionally, Farman’s inability to read or write was extremely unusual for a member of the nobility (particularly a son of a lord) and may point to deeper-seated mental health issues or disabilities. In hindsight, his actions seem to me the work of a troubled man driven mad by grief and loneliness (not unlike Lysa Arryn), rather than an ‘evil madness’ like Joffrey or Ramsay.

Agreed! I had him pegged him as a sociopath or psychopath. He was coldly calculated, amoral at best, and only cared about his family/children as extensions of himself (his legacy). Even if it's said that he "loved" his wife Joanna, sociopaths/psychopaths can definitely "love" other people, but it's less what we'd consider love and more like possessive love or ownership, (again) seeing the person as an extension of themselves (like an arm or a leg). Regardless, I think that he displays enough aspects of the "dark triad" personality traits (Machiavellism, psychopathy, & narcissism) to not really be considered a mentally healthy/stable "normal" person (whatever that means lol)

Rising Wind he cut out everyone’s tongue on his boat, it’s implied he sexually abused Victarion as a child in the books, a rumour goes around the iron islands he sent a faceless man to kill Balon, and I think he raped Victarions wife. That’s all I can remember but I’m sure he’s done worse.

Not quite, they can be semi identical where it is the same egg but two sperm thus allowing different sexes (from fathers sperm) but with the same genetic information from the mother. Could explain their similarities (them looking very similar is mentioned in the books) theconversation.com/same-same-but-different-when-identical-twins-are-non-identical-112684 BUT its extremely rare and your point stands, genetics is just weird!

Actually (I know, I know), fraternal twins are as genetically similar as regular siblings, so inbreeding won’t have any more likelihood of producing defects, since the problem is a lack of genetic variety increasing the risk of shared “dormant” recessive genes making themselves known.

So... your analysis of Joffrey seems really off (even just including him in this video). First of all, I believe fraternal twins, genetically, are just normal siblings who just happen to be born at the same time. Second, to me, and I think to most people, "Mad" or "Crazy" (which I'm pretty sure are terms psychologists strongly discourage) implies psychosis - a divorce from reality, that can't easily be explained by upbringing and circumstance. Like Lysa believing that she's raising Robyn well (when it's apparently nothing like how she herself was raised), or Aerys' complete paranoia. Joffrey isn't psychotic. He's a budding psychopath. Pretty big difference. He's not divorced from reality (or at least, he's not divorced from the reality Cersei and Robert taught him to see), he was just completely incapable of empathy. Same with Ramsey Bolton - he's a psychopath, not psychotic. Gregor Clegane - I can see how a case might be made that the milk of the poppy could have caused some of his cruelty. But, again, psychopath. All in all... I think my main objection is that your video presents a very unfair portrayal of "crazies", by mostly including people who are not suffering from any form of psychosis. I'm glad you did include Patchface and Rhaella's husband, though, who did belong in this video. OH! TYRION! Tyrion, from the end of ASOS through ADWD, could legitimately be said to be mad. He's clearly suffering from PTSD, is nursing a significant death wish, and is clearly severely depressed and self-destructive. His actions make little sense, even to himself, because his mind is broken.
@dendenne4856
@dendenne4856 7 ай бұрын
Joffrey is so spoiled rotten, he doesn't try to hide his cruelty because there are no consequences. The only one who tries to discipline him is Tyrion, and it isn't really effective because Tyrion is himself a cast out in the family. He isn't mature enough to control himself this is why I think he looks crazy. One indication that he isn't truly crazy is his change of behaviour toward Sansa after the death of Ned, and the fact that he doesn't treat Margery the way he treats Sansa because she has almost half Highgarden with her.
