Thank you for this insightful review of an important film that is, however, being marginalised in two significant ways. Firstly, Andrew Scott’s outstanding performance was seemingly snubbed by BAFTA’s anonymous diverse sub-committee, brought in to ensure full ethnic representation in the films chosen for member voting. Secondly, there’s Disney’s decision not to release the film on hard media - blu ray or dvd - but only as streamed content. Such actions will have a significant impact on the gay community. Both decisions are irresponsible, potentially homophobic, and will limit the audience for a masterpiece in which gay people are presented realistically and not as the stereotypes that normally exist in mainstream media. Such patronising films as BROS, for instance, are released on every media platform despite the image of gay people they present being false, reactionary, offensive and damaging to many in the community. Both Disney and BAFTA’s treatment of Andrew Haig’s film are unacceptable and should be called to account. In

Me, a gay black man reading this… 🤔

@@dg6612 Hello there. My comment was not meant in any way to be offensive. Statistically there is much homophobia amongst black groups. Objective surveys, for instance, have shown that 60% of ordinary UK Muslims feel that gay people should be criminalised and most feel they should never be allowed to work as teachers etc. BAFTA is understandably concerned about white unconscious bias when selecting films for consideration, hence their drive for more diverse selection panels, but I feel they should also be considering unconscious bias where people of colour are concerned too. The mystery of why Andrew Scott was not recognised by BAFTA or The Oscars, unfortunately leads to this form of speculation. Prejudice is not restricted to any one racial group and to see that this magnificent performance has not been recognised is understandably concerning. Surely, if BAFTA insists on unconscious bias training for its “BAFTA too white” members it must be for all ethnic groups and not “simply” centre on matters of race or ethnicity.

@@marnyfrancesca2526 It probably is, im 50 and its very nostalgic for starters, i had friends who had dads that behaved exactly like Jamie Bell in this, some have said his is the weakest performance, i disagree, hes spot on. think id need therapy to really find out lol, but what an amazing film, the best film ive seen in years. shocking that it didnt get a single BAFTA.

I thought that Adam and Harry being the only two people in that entire high rise spoke volumes about their loneliness and isolation. Even tho Adam told his mother that being gay was not a lonely life, for many, this is still the case, sadly.

I imagine this was a very well articulated and thoughtful review. Unfortunately, the background harp music drowns out the reviewers comments so it is struggle to hear what is being said. The music is lovely on its own or if it had been used here and there to highlight portions of the video. Running the music throughout the video at the same volume as the speaker makes it compete for attention by the viewer. This is a common problem in movies and TV shows where someone's music is trying to outshine the performance of the actors. All of us Strangers does not do that. It properly balances the music with the scene so that it elevates to mood of the scenes rather than competing with it. Like adding a hint of spice to a dish to improve flavor rather than overwhelm the meal with heavy spice. I loved this film, but did not appreciate this review due to the poor mixing of background music with dialog. Focus on the content of the review, use music subtly to enhance the experience not to divert attention away from the reviews message.

I didn't find the background music a distraction at all. I heard every word of the concise, commentary, clearly.
