This is a tough situation for any patient, and not just in dentistry but in all of the fields of health. I think the key for the doctor is to tell the truth, its not a disgrace for any doctor to recognize that a procedure on a particular patient is beyond their ability to do reliably and to suggest they go elsewhere. It is, however, a disgrace for any doctor to lie to the patient, and risky as heck in this age of information. A lot of patients will know or find out that they are being fibbed to.
