The idea of a civilization built by eyeless humanoids is honestly kinda fascinating in its own way. We're so used to relying on our vision for just about every decision, so things like architecture, aesthetics, art, travel, and socializing would take a whole new amazing form. Music itself would probably be different, as its melodies, harmonies, and percussion would take advantage of the Clickers' intricately tactile hearing... I don't remember the names of most of them, there wasn't anything specific mentioned for the snake people but it is said that they live similar lives as how we live now, one of the species had a culture of music and held concerts, and the picture of the advanced winged humans was captioned that it was a woman on vacation. Of course, that means the Qu doesn't exist or we beat them, but it's like "the good ending" version. They should try this as an alternate timeline for fun.

Sentience in its basic definition is just the capacity to feel emotions and sensations. Cows are sentient. Dogs are sentient. Sapience as in "homo sapiens". The ability to think abstractly and the awareness of self. Wisdom.

This might be a weird/hard thing to put into words, but I wonder if the All Tomorrows creatures actually looked like their illustrations. Like, dinosaurs, right? Their muscular structure, hair/feather patterns, fat distribution, and coloration are kind of mysteries to us. I'm wondering if the same mysteries apply for the Post-Humans. As someone trained in evolutionary biology and developmental genomics, the original book is honestly really funny because I can kind of tell what classic example of evolutionary studies each species took inspiration from. Bone crushers and fliers are like the classic Darwin's finches, swimmers are obviously inspired by marine mammals like dolphins and orcas, temptors could be any number of eusocial insects, and I'm _so_ sad the mention of parasites was only constrained to the one planet because the temptors would have 100% had a full ecosystem of inquiline or temporary brood parasites. It would have been fucking rad. I'm not putting down Kösemen! Those are honestly really good places to look for inspiration. And I'll admit it's fun to recognize where the author's ideas may have come from. And crucially, the logic behind their transformations over time always makes sense from an evolutionary standpoint; the mantelopes lose their artificially highly developed brains because grazing herd animals truly do not need complex reasoning, it's why you'll never in a million years see a horse writing poetry. Seriously, almost always, the niche the post-humans' adaptations begin to fill makes perfect sense. The fanfiction is unfortunately not written by Kösemen. The "alternate universes" here are fun, but they don't make nearly as much sense from a developmental perspective. It's kind of a shame.

@NotSoSerious69420 Жыл бұрын
How would you see something far away? How would you know what direction you’d even want to go? How do you know that the projection would even be particularly accurate in space? How do you efficiently transfer information that would be gained by one sense into another? Seeing and hearing are relatively close in terms of how they can perceive the physical worlds forms but how close? It almost seems like a burden that would require way more work than they could ever possibly be bothered to do. They’d probably just make a AI somehow to do it all for them before they’d bother with that.

What blows my mind is that since we got trillions and trillions of star systems out in the universe. I am absolutely certain that there is many other variations of humans and I mean not humanoid but other planetary species that resemble close to humans here on top of the fact that who knows maybe there is other humans like these Somewhere Out There. The universe is massive and the chances of other humans being out there in different shape or form or possibly even closely resemble us is pretty high. Not that it would be more common than other types of other species but more like the chances of even having them out there is pretty high. Just imagine yourself outside looking at a star and wondering if there is life out there, but at that very moment in a far distant Galaxy someone could be looking at that same exact Star as you are looking at wondering the same thing.

The picture for the Grazers and who is said that she is brings up an interesting point in the All Tomorrows book; beauty. The Grazer in the picture is depicted as the most beautiful female in the species. The picture that is shown for the bug facers is the most beautiful woman amongst their species. This gets me thinking. Is beauty a universal thing throughout all of the sub humans, or is it only for few, sentient species? What is beauty to the Sytiriacs? The pterosapians? The snake people? What about the most handsome males amongst their species? What is beauty to the subhumans? I feel like most of them wouldn't care about beauty, rather that be that not one being from each species is beautiful and they're all equivalent to each other (I.e. all of the temptors male and female look almost identical in each gender category), or a lack of caring like the Sytiriacs because an orgy is an orgy. I don't know, it's always been something that interests me about the story after discovering that the picture for the bug facers was depicted as the most beautiful woman.

Simple thermoreceptors in their skin could serve that purpose, letting them feel the warmth of sunlight and which direction it was coming from. That's enough for plenty of sun-averse invertebrates to get by, without need for actual image-forming eyes.

Evolution of the "Clickers" is very simiar to that of dolphins. Using their echo-location, dolphins can not only find a fish but make a sonogram of it and and tell you what it will taste like.

WAIT if the processors told the asteramorphs the Qu's secrets that means the ruin haunters would've lost the war before they could do much damage because in this reality the asteramorphs are more social so it wouldn't take long for them to stop the ruin haunters with the knowledge that they now know
@suziebelle3738 Жыл бұрын
Im pretty sure the Asteromorphs didnt get involved sooner because it simply didnt concern them until the Gravitals started trying to target them. The other human subspecies still doesnt pose as a great benefit to them in this timeline either, so i feel like theyd also be ambivalent to the gravitals genocides in this universe too

The idea that, if an intelligent Grazer after the Asteromorphs took over, had access to a personal Mantelope computer, might have stored Pettabytes of data worth of the image of these models at 6:00 is personally, just comical, like imagine if the Mantelope felt a bit silly and infested the entire Posthuman internet with Grazer model photos 💀💀💀

Grim and tragic, I am not sure that I would want to read any more text on what I have already seen. The idea that it takes an alien invasion to set this up makes the whole exercise a bit of a stretch. Dugal Dixon's Man After Man is enough for me.
