What I like most about this series is how experimental it is with the designs. We're used to have more "humanlike" aliens because it's cheap (people have to be more lenient on original Star Trek and Star Wars, they had a budget and limits to make up technology, but maybe newer ones have) and it sells (familiarity is still a variable important in executive decisions), so it's really nice to have such different designs and to have humans losing their humanity.

It's also much more effective to sell emotions on a human-like species since that's how our communication has evolved.
@ShadeSlayer19112 жыл бұрын
@@heretical_cuttlefish EEAAO showed that it's possible to show emotion through goddamn rocks. Many people have said that that scene was among the most emotional for them. No music. No movement. Just...two rocks...sitting there...lifeless. And yet it evoked strong emotions. It just takes good enough writing. This might be a hot take of mine, but I believe that if Star Trek and Star Wars wanted to, even with limited budget and resources, could have made more unique alien species. Fantastic and truly alien alien species, even. Some of the best innovations in creature designs came about as a result of limitations. They just didn't care to. Other things were more important to them. And that's fine. But it still means ST and SW are piss poor in terms of aliens go. Heck, early Star Trek had rock aliens of their own. They were trippy and they were stupid, but they existed because they tried.

@@pokemonfanmario7694 yes i ment more in context of "relatablity to man" as in having emotions and thought patterns we could understand and empathize with. a ai would gain some form of emotion as it ascended "will to live there chosen purpose some desire" that it would be able to "feel" at heights most life couldnt in shear quantity or complexity. but if it wasnt "cursed' with human emotions form the begining it likely would never gain the majority of them as they are irrational and it wouldnt see the point. depriving all possible ablity for it to empathize with other life.

I believe they didn't say "join us or die" but "You are enslaving sapient beings, you are going to be punished accordingly" which is likely not "we will kill you" considering the alliance of aliens considered slavery to be evil. Probably enforced rehabilitation. Morality courses and large financial, social and industrial aid to those they enslaved. I haven't read the story yet, but I suspect it isn't so simple. And it was possibly human greed and pride that refused to admit their evil actions towards another race that made them fight back. Naturally some human factions want us to make a play for dominance, while others push for cooperation. It's kind of funny in a tragic way. In one version of the Star Trek universe, Earth's united government was also called the UE. UE had two chances to get it right, the first not exploiting the first race that they encountered, and the second was avoiding a war by joining the Alliance. The UE from Star Trek would not have enslaved the Chantari, and likely would have been invited into the Conglomerate on friendly terms. And they definitely would have jumped at the chance for friendly relations with another alien power too. I think that it is most likely that the corporations and government kept what they did to the Chantari a secret, while the media they owned spun the Conglomerate as a fascistic alien empire coming to take their freedom away, if not outright slaughter them, because if/when the population found out that the war was their fault, let's just say that many would not be happy with the Powers That Be. Some, if not whole colonies might have even wanted to defect.

_Disclaimer: This sounds epically fascinating and I want to learn more about this one. It's different so far from the one that starts with Star People being invaded by the Qu, which in and of itself is a very good one to listen to. I'm just wanting to branch out the experience a little._ It's always interesting, and sometimes fascinating, but the problem with a lot of the speculative evolutions I've seen so far (which is...less than I care to admit to, but enough to get a grasp) is that they just tend to start off with, "Humanity was invaded by X, and genetically altered because Y reasons, and this was a billion years ago so they're all dead anyways so it doesn't matter." It's like writers don't want to have humanity evolve back into common animals (well, some humans, if not all) purely because evolution _happens._ It's always because some alien or AI comes along and says, "You're all toast." (And once in a while, just because humans are stupid with war, but I digress.) Humanity isn't just destined to evolve to some higher plain of existence on its own, when some of its offshoots might have to regain animalistic appearance and function in order to survive nature, but not because some other higher form of life came along and decided to play with genetic tinkering. If anyone can point me to a speculative evolution that doesn't come about because of others treating genes like playthings, I'll be more than happy to check it out. I haven't seen enough of speculative evolution (involving humanity) overall to warrant a true, overarching opinion to start with. Also, I'm not interested in the ones that involve _magic._ Yet.

the collective conscuess is mostly seen as a horror in modern times with deeper understanding of the mind and physics the idea of some "higher mind" composed of all of us that could discard us at a whim its the basis for the WARP and CHOAS GODS of 40k after all.

Moon has more inhabitants as the earth, a planet with low gravity, but a dense atmosphere.... i dont know, it doesnt click for me. I like the concept tho. The worldbuilding just seems so total out of place. Like how the aliens look and what features they have regarding their home planets make sometimes no sense. The physics also barely make sense.

Psionic powers are always such a cop out for wizards, I don’t understand why you’d try to make a realistic sci-fi universe with psionics, it just doesn’t fit
@gundorf20632 жыл бұрын
I believe psionics in space sci-fi were mostly a callback to the original Starship Troopers novel. Ever since, many sci-fi franchises have their own version of psionics, most notably Warhammer 40k and Gundam.

One thing I've always been curious about is learning about exactly how a computer based AI was able to develop enough to control organic matter. I guess in this instance, it would have been done through controlling the minds of humans? But even then how did it achieve that.

Implausible premise. We don't need solar. We have fission. More than enough power for millions of years, and we'd quickly on that time scale develop fusion as well. The real issue at this scale is AI safety, and the power of crowd psychology to magnify individual psychology which can obviously be pathological.
@inzane4562 жыл бұрын
The sun is effectively one massive fusion reactor though.
