We're checking out some My Summer Car gameplay highlights and funny moments. Following up from ep 1, we ordered the entire slew of performance parts from the catalog and today we receive the call that they're in! The racing muffler, exhaust, twin carburetor,
steel headers, and of course our racing radiator are all there and it's time to drive to the store, pick them up, and get them installed into our car. I go through each piece, so if you were ever looking for a little "how to" on installing the aftermarket parts, I guess this is it. Then, it's just a matter of topping off the fluids and seeing how well she starts. Just a few additional parts left to buy and then it's on to the custom paint job, which costs a freaking arm and a leg.

ABOUT: MY SUMMER CAR:
MY SUMMER CAR is the ultimate car owning, building, fixing, tuning, maintenance AND permadeath life survival simulator. You start the game with hundreds of loose parts and assemble both car and engine. Not only you need to maintain your car, but yourself as well. Sausages, beer and sleeping will do just fine.
If everything goes well, you have a working car which you can use for various 1990's Finnish countryside summer activities. Basically doing stupid things under influence of alcohol. After you have gathered extra money from various random jobs, you can start to tune and upgrade the car with parts ordered via snail mail. You can turn the car into a obnoxious bass-boom disco machine.... or into a rally car to participate rally competitions... or just fix it into perfect factory condition. Of course car also needs to pass the inspection or you might get into trouble with police.
Not only you have access to one car, but also several other cars and vehicles which you can use. (Mostly useful to get groceries and for towing the project car from some ditch, again).
Warning, this game is not for fainted heart. Severe car fever is required to play this properly due to it's autistic approach on car building.

What you saw in the TV was a test pattern that was shown in TV channels outside broadcast times. Back in the day when you had to tune your TV channels manually, the test pattern helped you to figure out when the channel was tuned OK. Yes, I'm old :)

LOL. That "tv-program" you watched was the thing in Finnish television in the early 90's when it was too late or early for television programs in some of the channels. Yes, we had times in the day when there was no tv-programs. I know that in many countries they show tv-shop when there is nothing else to show but we had that screen.

Well it was more usefull than infomercials, if you didn't notice, the picture has a bunch of different shades, some geometricall figures covering most of the visible area etc... With it you could fine tune your TV to get the most perfect picture possible. Modern tvs and monitors have contrast/sharpness and the like, old cathode tube tvs had geometricall stuff and phase sifts and sheit. So it was a public service announcement :D

It's called a Test Pattern, and was a thing in the US as well. It's also the thing with the indian head in Fallout...it could help you calibrate your TV if you knew what you were doing (I was way too young to worry about that)

In Finland we use RON octane measurement and in US they use the mean of RON and MON. So they are not exactly the same but you can basicly add 4-5 octane more to the US fuel to get the same octane measurement that the fuel would get in Finland. Here in Finland we have usually three pumps: 95, 98 and diesel. Sometimes you can find also MPÖ which translates to motor fuel oil and it is only used in farming vehicles.

At the 90's in Finland they did only show the tuning image on TV during the night. The actual program started around 7 am I think. Awesome realism! And no, windshield wipers don't do anything yet because there is no wet windshield effect implemented.

No, it is definetely Celcius. I've often had sauna at 110 Celcius, and have not died so far. 100 C = 212 F. You'll feel very hot and sweat a lot, but you don't stay in the sauna until death. Unless you are drunken and pass out.

One man actually tested it, as long as the people had access to plenty of water, he was able to get the room hot enough to cook a steak and the people were fine. Gray has been putting more effort into building the Satanna car than most people I know put in learning how to drive a real one. I saw a lot of people online getting the car 100% built but they were mostly simply some sort of command or another to get it all built. It's quite nice to see someone putting the effort that the developer probably wanted the players to put into the game.

Those are the air filters for the carburetors . The old filter you dont need. It mounts differently, built for a single style carb which is what you had upgrade from. Your old filter can pretty much go climb a finish tree as this point not much use for it anymore.

The thermometer in the sauna is probably in celsius because water boils at 212 F/100 C

They changed the temperature it needed to be to make the sauna work substantially. Before it needed to be like 100C, but I think that was the air temp.

100C is way too high for the electric stove. 75C is much better. If you have a real sauna stove, using woods to warm up, then it can be around 85-100C. And yeah, that is air temperature, nothing to do with boiling the water. It takes usually over 30min. to warm up to 75C if you dont have anykind of instant stove, then its always ready without waiting. Wood stove is the best, you will get the best bath from it.

Hey Gray- still loving the series- yes, you were right- the pink and chrome discs behind your twin carburetors are the air filters- 'pancake filters' they call them over here, but yeah- usually make your engine run really lean, like it is doing in the game, as theres less resistance/more air getting past them- also, you usually have to balance the 2 carbs together, but dont know if thats modelled. Anyway- keep it up- if nothing else, you will know more about cars after this!

The Datsun has more storage space. The trunk is smaller but it's open to the rest of the car, so you could have slid the box in through the trunk and laid it on the right side and stacked the other boxes on the left. And then stuck your case of beer on top of the exhaust box.

SU carburetors. Instead of a throttle plate, they have cylinders which slide up&down to open &close the passage. You tune their response by changing the viscosity of the oil they float in

that channel at about 4:00 makes you tired so you can sleep. Also, filling the muscle cars trunk with wood or beer helps you keep the back wheels down. There are hidden cars in barns around the map, i suspect they will become future my summer car projects. Steering wheel controllers are awesome when set right. If you drive really close to the cop on the right hand side, you can take the breath test without getting out in all cars but the sewage truck. (no need to straighten out and risk dying on the road :P) I hade the same mistake with the racing exaust, lucky for my i picked it up with my sasuma, and had the tool kit with me. I forced the old exaust through the ground with a headbutt and picked it up later at the junk yard. :P when tuning your engine, you can gain a little extra low rpm power by giving your exaust valves two extra ticks into the quite zone to create a little more compression inside the engine, i tried 3 clicks but it ends up robbing from the high end of the rpm, two clicks is perfect for a close geared rally type setup, also with that setup i run my carb at a 4.5-4.7 air/fuel mix which prevends low end stalls as well as allowing you to top out your engine on the highway without overheating at all. literally you can gun it to max rpm for over one full lap around the map. (I can email you my save to look at if your curious.)
