Would you put this on a master bus (in a moderate way of course) to "glue" a whole track together? That adaptive function looks cool. It seems to know or detect when to add or take more reverb.

Is this the equivalent of a reverb plugin with Soothe2 added into the signal chain?
@Joeknowsit-ALL2 ай бұрын
Exactly that's what I usually do after a reverb..I add soothe and I make sure it demudd the area around the 250hz

The unmask/ducking feature is present in some other reverb plugins like d16 Toraverb which also has att/rel... Baby audio Crystalline and Spaced Out... United Plugins Hyperspace just to name a few. The feature has been around on other reverb plugins for a long time. It's handy to have depending what you're trying to achieve. I like the iZotope GUI but don't need it as I use other reverbs that do exactly the same thing with many more features.

Also FabFilter Pro-R2 has "duck" parameter to get clean main signal.

I bought Smart Comp for this reason but barely used it just because it's a hassle to set up and added latency. I agree this should be on every reverb plugin. We'll see, but normal sidechain ducking only just became a standard feature. It's probably going to be a while.

So you were saying that you can do this trick also in the effects bus. Could you use something like smooth operator in that effects bus and get the same result as this plugin?
@2probeats2 ай бұрын
Yes! You can do it with plugins like trackspacer or smooth operator as long as it has sidechain. Cheers

So the unmasking simply allows you to set an automation curve in Ableton for example where in a particular part of the song you've got a build up of reverb and you can reduce the reflections so to speak on the vocals to allow them to pop out of the mix more? I get that, but can't I just turn down the reverb mix in the same way on that particular track? What are you really gaining there? Unmasking, versus turning the amount of reverb down in any particular area is very similar. Although I can see you might get some slight differences but how detectable are they really to the ear?

Nah, it’s basically just the same “Threshold” knob you’d use when sidechaining the Reverb with a compressor, although with an intelligent equalizing algorithm. That’s also why you have the attack & release to tailor the “ducking” as the input signal hits the threshold. In the case that you just mentioned I would definitely automate the send level itself instead of automating the unmask knob though. In the best way I can put it automating the send is gonna make it cleaner, contrastable (versus the “Big Verb”), and eliminates the artifacts that you’d get by doing it the other way around
