I bought a second-hand UFX II Rev. A (the first revision, very old) yesterday, but I can't get it to work with my M1 Max Mac Studio running macOS 15.3, no matter what I try. The unit works fine with an Intel Mac. I was planning to return it and buy a brand-new UFX II, but after watching your video, I'm completely lost. I can't find any good alternatives in a similar price range, and I don't like UAD Apollo. :(
@danielgaudet611418 сағат бұрын
Have you updated to the latest firmware on the UFX II? If not that might fix it. There are certain firmware requirements for their newer MacOS user mode drivers. You will need to have a computer that can work with the UFX II to update the firmware. Alternatively, you could look at installing an older driver on your Mac Studio (if it's supported with your version of MacOS).

From my research into this the issue seemed to be with Apple changing how they do permissions for some of the drivers and that messed up a lot of things for even installing the drivers from RME. Took me ages to get mine to work and I have never updated the drivers since, but on Windows they are rock solid for sure.
@habanaenserio26242 күн бұрын
Did you installed the Kernel drivers or the DriverKit? They are both different, and Apple changed how some apps (like RME drivers) used the Kernel access to their advantage for ''security reasons'' and forcing the DriverKit extensions. You can still use the kernel approach to the drivers, but you need to lower you MacOS security settings. There is nothing wrong with your interface or RME drivers, I'm 99% convinced of this...

Well, I certainly hope they have fixed whatever bugs you and others have found because, in the process, at least one new bug has been introduced. Specifically, I have used several 32 bit VSTs with J-Bridge for years with no issues. But now, with the version 7 update, see the list of available bridged instruments reduced to a fraction of what it was with version 6. Fter looking around a bit I found at least one of the bridged instruments under the effects tab. It is, of course, unusable there and I cannot find a way to get it recognized as the instrument it is. I will certainly try to report this as a bug, but it does not bode well for my view of the "improvements" to version 6.

I guess if RME ADI works for masses without problem, likely the very very very buggy Apple Silicon (after Ventura) is the problem. I just ordered bigger internal SSD for my Mac Studio -yes it can be done for small portion of Apple’s price- because it fails external drives over and over, and I’m tired of using data every month. :/ Apple should stop this “yearly update for nothing” method. They should fix what they have first and then think about anything major. They never ever listen to customers even on their own site… experts randomly answer stupid bs, super annoying. Imagine you have to develope driver for a constantly moving target, likely RME is pissed off too.
@2probeats3 күн бұрын
I get that and I would be pissed off too if I had to work new drivers every time Apple did something to their OS. But at the end of the day I don’t really care who’s at fault - i just need my system to work and if one piece is not working properly with another I just keep the most important one and move forward.
@simeonmatthews45843 күн бұрын
I just moved away from UAD to a Focusrite Red 16 Line. I know it’s an older interface but it’s as reliable as UAD and the converters sound better. The bass isn’t as boomy as UAD but it’s tighter and a more honest representation. I know how you feel about switching from a brand that has served you well for years. But in my opinion UAD have a great reputation and publicity team. But is it well deserved? All they’ve really done in the last 10 years is change the chassis and say it’s a new interface. Then people have lined up with their money to buy the same hype as last time. Incredible marketing to sell the same thing for 10 years with a different chassis 😂
@2probeats3 күн бұрын
I don’t think it’s just marketing - even though people like to hate on UA, they have a solid lineup of products. Are they perfect? Probably not, but the foundation is there and so many professional rely on them. So far my experience with my Apollo Gen2 has been really solid.
@simeonmatthews45843 күн бұрын
@ I have to agree. UAD do have solid performance and they work straight out the box and carry on working with no issues whatsoever. The reason I moved away from UAD is strictly because of their ability to sell the same thing in a different chassis. In the end it just felt like they were playing with their customers. Someone like you for example who is running hardware will get the same results because the DA is exactly the same as the Gen1’s. They have basically changed the chassis and their software and charged thousands to their loyal customers. They could basically sell sand to the Arabs

I believe you even if nobody else does. I had the exact same behaviour with RME device some time back. Their support blamed osx, but the every other audio interface worked fine. Their custom drivers certainly give you lower latency, but on some hardware revisions they cause issues. Their refusal to accept the responsibility for addressing it is the reason I ditched them and never looked back. It _is_ their fault, cos it’s their hardware and drivers which glitch.

Thanks! I’m here to share my journey and my expirience because I know that might be important for some people. I’m not here trying to convince anybody of anything 😂. I love RME and I still use their superb ADI-2 Pro FS-R but I had issues with my UFX+ and I wasn’t the only one.
@danielgaudet611418 сағат бұрын
Actually, I believe it's due to MacOS pushing drivers into user space vs kernel mode drivers (which improves OS stability since kernel mode drivers can crash MacOS when they stop working and it's not usually the case for user mode drivers). RME was one of the first companies to create drivers using the new driver kit that supports Apple's requirement for user mode drivers. One of the challenges with user mode is that it doesn't always guarantee getting access to the CPU in a specified amount of time, and that's where you have these audio glitches. I believe that MacOS has been improving this with every update, but there are still issues that come up from time to time. Interfaces like UAD have yet to make the change to the new driver model. There will be a point where Apple will no longer allow kernel mode drivers to work. Hopefully, UAD will have updated drivers user mode drivers by that time.
