All Saints Church at Freshwater

I came across this church during my visit to The Isle of Wight. It doesn't look particularly interesting from the outside, but when you take a walk around the churchyard and see how the trees and the gravestones live in harmony with each other, then you realise it's a match made in heaven. Come with me and have a look at how nature takes care of it's visitors, who lay below the ground.

what a lovely old cemetery. i would love to take a walk through there. my husband and i used to wander around the cemeteries in Charleston sc. we thought we were weird because we enjoyed the peacefulness of it.

A beautiful Churchyard. I was there yesterday. The Tennyson's are buried there. Emily Tennyson, Lord Alfred Tennyson's wife and Hallam Tennyson's wife too.

How absolutely charming! Whenever I find myself in a place like this, I like to read the names on the gravestones out loud, because it is said that, as long as someone speaks you name, you will live, if only on the wind. As for how old that wonderful tree is, read the stone beside it, if you can, they are probably tied together.

Beautiful church and yard. I do agree the wild mix of trees and graves is natures story, but also feel a bit sad that things aren’t a little better kept out of respect to those gone on before us. Thank you for inviting us along, and I’m looking foorward to the next walk. Susan

Oh Freshwater, we spent 5 years running holidays there, lovely place. Poor old I. O. W, was crumbling at blackgang chine, is it still? Many happy memories. Enjoy your holiday ilona. I bet the drive down was yuk, your a further 1hr up than us😬 altho I guess your use to it. Admire you lovely lady x p. S not sure if garlic festival is on but can recommend if you love garlic lol

I didn't get to blackgang chine. One week isn't enough to see everything. There will be some photo's on the blog coming up of Shanklin chine. It sure was a long way to drive from North Lincolnshire to the south coast.
