Titan makes up 96 % of all the mass orbiting Saturn, including the rings.
@thebel89
@thebel89 Жыл бұрын
Titan is also one of the most habitable worlds, its similar to early Earth. There could be life, but thick atmosphere slows down the research. It has clouds, but they are made of methane, not water vapour. If you looked them from the surface, they would appear black, they don't let any light through. The clouds are much taller than the clouds on Earth, they can reach 40 km, while highest clouds on Earth are just 18 km high. The atmosphere is made of nitrogen and organic compunds, like methane and ethane, and some acetylene. This is why it looks yellowish

@@thetfsguy3033 Surprisingly it's true. The rings are only 100 m thick so they only have less mass than Mimas. Titan also has a large rocky core while the rest of these objects are mostly ice, and because of the square cube law a moderate increase in diameter gives a big increase in volume.
@olegyurchenko4127

@@RealUlrichLeland Indeed, even Rhea , second biggest object after Titan have only 1.72% of Titan mass But statement not 100% true - Rhea + all till Tethys(+him) have 4,2% of Titan mass . So maybe not 96% , but somewhere around 94-95%.

Enceladus containing more water than Earth? That's physically impossible since its total volume is only *67 million cubic kilometres* (km³) while the Earth's oceans contain about *1.37 billion* km³ of water. However, Jupiter's moon _Europa_ is believed to contain more water than Earth since its total volume (mostly rock) is nearly *16 billion* km³ or 11.6 times more than the Earth's oceans.

@@r.a.6459 that planet is now considered to not really exist, as the Home Star (V1400 Centauri) has been confirmed to be a Strong Variable, and the fact that J1407b was never seen after its transit.

.. I did not know some of the smaller moons of Saturn had Nordic names. Which brings up a question, what is the naming convention for Saturn satillites? I know Jupiter's started with lovers of Jupiter/Zeus, then ...was it Neptune that has moons named after literary characters such as Shakespearian characters Miranda and Oberon.

Neptune's moons are related to the ocean.

At first they named the moons after Titans of Greek mythology, but as there were only 7 Titans, they had to change that. They started naming them after Norse, Inuit and Gallic names.

The general naming convention for Saturn's satellites is mythological giants.

It’s mindblowing that we can detect a moon that’s just 600m to 2km in size from so far away. It would be cool to visit those small moons as you could walk around them in no time, it’ll be like having your own little island.

Some of them were discovered by the Voyagers and Cassini space probes, but most of them were found by large ground telescopes.

It's so interesting how sudden the shift to 'perfectly spherical' is at the upper end of the scale range... I would have expected it to be more gradual. [P.S. what an incredible visualization!! Good work indeed...]
