As a mathematician I would like to provide a bit of constructive criticism/fact check about this entertaining video. Please don't take these personally :) *_Facts that were not (totally) correct about finities:_* - *_Number of english words:_* I suppose you got the 172'000 from Oxford dictionary (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_dictionaries_by_number_of_words ). However, those are only the words currently in use. 300'000 would be a better estimate of the number of english words. - *_Number of movies:_* The number 500'000 is not "incorrect", however, it is a very conservative estimate. 1 million would probably be closer to the truth,[1] in particular since many films are never commercially published. *_-Number of grains of sand on a beach and the earth:-_*- It seems you got mixed up the number of grains of sand on a single beach and the whole earth? Indeed, according to [2], there are about 7.5 * 10^18 grains of sand on the entire earth, not a single beach.- (Edit: I got this one wrong.) - *_Number of data bytes ever created by mankind:_* Already by 2018, the International Data Corporation estimated that 33 zettabytes = 3.3 * 10^22 is the size of the global datasphere.[3] This is more than a hundred-fold of the 1 * 10^20 bytes you gave. - *_Number of chess games (!):_* Now this one could potentially be _really wrong._ You see, the estimate that you gave, 10^120, is only a _lower bound_ on the number of chess games.[4] There could be quite a lot more chess games. A very crude upper bound is given by 10^27586.[5] An estimate of the number of "reasonable chess games" could be around 10^123. However, that is a bit speculative. - *_Largest prime number (!!):_* Now sorry about that, but as a mathematician this one pissed me off by far the most: There is no "largest prime number". This was already known to Euclid more than 2000 years ago.[6] What you meant is "largest *known* prime number". This is a subtle difference in wording but a big difference in meaning :) . - *_Boltzmann brain (!):_* The description suggests that Boltzmann brain formation is established physics, which is *not* the case.[7][8a][9] Now you can still state the number 10^10^69, but there should be a disclaimer that this is just a thought experiment and not established science. - *_Our multiverse:_* Again, this is not consensus.[8] I have to cut you some slack here because you correctly wrote down "based on chaotic inflation theory." - *_Time until the universe resets itself (!):_* Same issues as with Boltzmann brains but even more extreme. *_Facts that were not (totally) correct about infinities:_* - *_Replacement-inaccessible infinity (!!):_* Everything up to omega_omega is fine. But then you say that epsilon_0 = omega_omega_omega_... which could not be further from the truth! Indeed, epsilon_0 is a *countable* ordinal.[A] So it is smaller than even omega_1 ! Epsilon_0 is actually defined as the smallest ordinal epsilon satisfying epsilon = omega^epsilon. You could just put tree(tree(tree....3) a googol times, which is obviously enormous compared to tree(3), but that isn't the biggest number you can make, rayo's number is much bigger.
