At 16, Ranallo is already such a pro at announcing. Boosting the angle with great insight and the right level of irritation in his voice and with his choice of words. Actually worked at KFC back then.

The feeling is probably mutual with the other posts here, but as a British Columbian born and raised I salute John Tenta. He is the only Vancouverite to ever win a major WWF title during the Hulkamania era. Tenta also made all the true wrestling fans in B.C. proud in that he was probably the only performer (to my knowledge) to go from All-Star directly to the WWF in one change of employment, considering that this promotion was just a little guy. Rest in peace, Tenta.

This was Canadian wrestling at it's finest. The UWA had people like Buddy Wayne, Tim Flowers, Mike Star, The Frog, King Kong Jr Bundy and of course BIG John Tenta. I still remember his UWF Farewell... It was right after he helped Dino Bravo beat up the Warrior during the push-up challenge. R.I.P. John Tenta.

I remember how tiny Buddy Wayne was -- not even 200 pounds, IIRC. But if Rey Misterio could get over in the WWF, than Buddy could have somehow.

@BrickhouseB2 He did a WWF dark match in 2002 as Earthquake and get a good reaction. He was heavy enough to make the gimmick still work. It's here on youtube.

John Tenta was the FIRST non-Japanese to enter the Japanese league of sumo as Kototenzan. Chad Rowan was the first American to enter. Chad is better known to sumo fans as the great Akebono Taro.
@teo_heel9 жыл бұрын
Please, if you don't know, what you write, don't do this. Firse non-Japanese (I use sumodb.sumogames(dot)de) to Enter Japan sumo was some man with shikona Hiraga in 1934, he was from Los Angeles, California. And, before Kototenzan entered sumo, there was some guy from Hawaii, called Takamiyama (WALANI-KUHAULUA Jesse James), who entered sumo in 1964 and became the FIRST non-Japanese to win Emperor cup on 1972 Nagoya Basho.

I remember this confrontation between Earthquake and Moose Morowski. Morowski also had another feud with another fellow named Wojo (who was sort of B.C.'s answer to Hulk Hogan). Morowski claims to have defeated both men in this promotion. In this promotion, Morowski would have been billed to defeat Tenta. In the WWF, however, Tenta would have won because Tenta was a featured star (and a one-time tag-team champion) in the WWF; whereas Morowski lost a match as a jobber in a WWF card I attended.

@@Thundarr100 - I could very well be mistaken on the promotion name, I was super young at the time - I assumed they were the same promotion because I vividly remember meeting Big John Tenta there.
@Thundarr1004 жыл бұрын
@@davidredacted6959 Oh you're not mistaken on the name. It was ASW when Al Tomco was in charge (that's when John Tenta wrestled there). The company went through several rebrandings after Tomco's retirement. During my brief time as a pro wrestler it was called ICW. Now "Gorgeous" Michelle Starr owns it and it's called All Star Wrestling once again.

If you're thinking of a guy who was born and raised in Abbotsford, B.C., worked for B.C. Tel for some time, stood nearly 7 feet tall, was trained by Moose Morowski, and was forced to retire from the ring due to blood clot in his leg - that's the guy.

It sounds like a "Blue Peter" song, possibly an instrumental version of "Radio Silence" they were a big new wave band in Vancouver in the 1980's. it's hard to tell with it cranked up and scratchy on this video but it very much sounds like that band.

@BrickhouseB2 i thought he was Golga before his last run as Earthquake? Could be wrong. You're right, the Earthquake gimmick couldn't work once he'd trimmed down the weight but i suspect he did that for health reasons. Too late sadly. Also he'd slipped to a mid-carder before he left the WWF after his first run even with the weight on. He was quality though and it's great watching videos of him on this site as a leaner guy showing how talented he was as a wrestler
