Definitely pre-mature, short sighted move with Cara. Keep the strong, loyal people who can/will protect you in the beginning and take the shot later down the line when it makes sense.

Here's some strategy for ya boys. In a game like the challenge it pays to have people who owe you favors. No one owed Brandon any favors for throwing in Cara and he didn't have a significant alliance to protect him from any backlash, aka a shot in the dark.

the phone goes both ways!!!!!! It's dumb to piss off someone that 100% has your back when you know no one else does. Cara has pull to potentially keep him safe. Not to mention, you know she's going to be around to get revenge.
