I lived near Frankfort IN for an important part of my life, a great friend who played guitar introduced me to this hometown-area musician's legacy. I'll always remember this fella and be grateful to have melted corners of each other's minds through sharing new music and the occasional jam session. Getting to know Blind Melon / Shannon Hoon's work was one of the most memorable times when a person's music scraped across just about the entirety of my soul... Shannon is still so loved to this day, my friends took me to see his gravesite after i told them how obsessed and inspired I'd become. I will always be grateful that i was able to celebrate his memory in such an intimate way, among a few friends who grew up with such a reverance for his art. Indiana has a serious hotbed for musical art to this day! I'm about to make this about something else aside from, but very related to, Shannon's passing. If you continue, please read to the very end. And thank you ☺ My guitarist friend has since passed away as well, he fought hard and might have made it if the medical professionals he tried to get help from didn't discriminate against him for a drug history he already left behind years before. I guess people got used to him being "so and so's kid brother with the problems" for as long as he was, as the opioid issues of the area rose, and they already saw too many cases where folks would shoot themselves in the foot for pills and stuff like that... He deteriorated after a few visits to doctors, that at best deduced that he hurt himself at work, gave him Tylenol and told him to lay in bed til it got better. His his organs began deteriorating from an infection, a few days later he was unable to even stand up on his own and it was clear to all who truly knew him that he was indeed unwell. His wife fought for them to look deeper, but he was already in bad shape. He held on a long time in a hospital bed, mostly out of consciousness, before he passed and left behind his own baby girl and the wife who loved him through it all. Friends of KZbin with excellent taste in music: please help us to end the stigma against people who have used drugs. Please help us end the stigma against people who currently use- if someone you love has a problem, please don't leave their life entirely... By all means please don't enable them or let anyone ever abuse you, but don't cut them out or count them out. Don't look right through them, or let others hurt them when they do ask for help. They need you more than ever, once they're "a known drug user". If someone in your path has a past, if they've done things they aren't proud of and committed crimes in the name of their disorder, please understand they judge themselves more than enough already, they live with the painful outcomes, they recognize the damage they caused as they believed they were only hurting themselves with it, and and they've gotten better despite the disease of total self-annihilation. Please understand that people like Shannon and my friend here did not ever intend to become swept away by that chemical hug that drugs give to a hurting heart. For every person who's addicted, there are 10 old friends who meddled with drugs as well and were able to stop, maybe even pick up again on occasion. A whole lot more people try hard drugs than you'd ever think- from your kid's pediatrician, your supervisor, the super-mom next door, to the CPS worker who brings children to supervised visits with parents working to reunify after developing a drug issue- there are a lot of people who have done heroin and coke than most people would guess. They just didn't have the mental disorder lurking deep in their brain, and could literally take or leave the drugs after meeting them up close & personally. If one person ever reads this and takes my friend's story with them, or remembers what I've asked my fellow lovely listeners to consider, know how truly grateful i am for your time and reflection on this painful subject, one that's now touched more of my generation than it hasn't ❤

Fuck me, what a voice. If Robert Plant and Janice Joplin made a Rock n Roll baby... Many critics label Blind Melon as one-hit-wonders. No Rain was their only hit, but "Soup" is an album that will stand the test of time. All the notes are perfectly placed. Just a wonderful album
@bryanmannoia75619 жыл бұрын

I wonder if Vernie would say this to Shannon, I hear something in the pantry? God Bless You Melonheads I'm holding back tears, I haven't listened to all the rares, I have a few in an old hard drive that was sent to me from friends and I save them as gifts, music I have not heard yet is a gift from beyond the grave from Shannon. And now I'm crying with Joy hearing this, it's the second time only, omg, feels so good to hear him man like he just cut this yesterday for me and You and You and You. Patience pays off in times like these, if you can hold onto something precious as a gift for years and years and never open it, or only open one gift a year and put the rest away for another day, if that day keeps coming. Thank You, even though I shed happy and sad tears my upper body burst out in sweat too, all while the vocals of Shannon play with my mind Peace and God Bless

All that you need to go from swimming to a freeze, is usually made of the things you don't need, and the enemies will swear another life is nothin' like me. Mmm, shhhh! I hear something in the pantry. Oh, if I was to smile, and I held out my hand, All that I could be now, would you not understand? You know if I'm to benefit, I'll do everything that I can. Oh, I'm hearing something in the pantry. Oh yeah. I'm hearing something in the pantry. (x3) [sweet harmonica solo] Oh glasses so thick, and eyesight so weak, that I reflect my own gloom make my heart begin to beat, I'm owe it for the moment, after that everything's free. Oooh, shhhh! I'm hearin something in the pantry. I'm hearing something in the pantry. (x3) Ooohhh ... de doo de doo doo ... These are just the thoughts in my head. Maybe we'd be better off if we took it off, and painted it red. I never smiled the way that I did today. Maybe it's the palms of my hand that are sweatin' me. Swearing that I will beleive everything they're telling me. I never smiled the way that I did today. Yeah. Everything, everything is gonna be okay. (x2) They're telling me that everything is gonna be okay. They're tellin me... (x3) They're telling me that everything is gonna be okay. It'll be okay (x2), It's gonna be okay (x2), okay.

@IWantToTasteDirtyx3 I knew Shannon before he left IN. We weren't close, just somewhere between friends and acquaintances. I am here to tell you,Shannon was about enjoying life 101%, and at any nearly any cost.Being down on yourself isn't an option he would be happy with, he would find a way to tun it into something fun no matter what.Unfortunately,dope was his method many times. Learn from his life and his words, he would tell you himself if he could: Don't fall in the same trap that he did.
