Goes to show everyone’s taste is different and there’s no right or wrong 😊 I’ve read a few hyped books recently (Powerless, Divine Rivals and Fourth Wing to name a few), all of which I’ve found to be disappointing. Same with Project Hail Mary which I read last year. Other books I’ve really enjoyed (Lightlark and Nightbane) seem to be really divisive. Keeps things interesting!

For an emotional romance with broken people learning self-forgiveness that's set in New York, I suggest The Butterfly Project by Emma Scott. It's one my fave romances ever, with that cozy city holiday/winter vibe. Has an artistic element too.

18:09 the best romance books will use a trope, then dig into the root of that trope, and base their characters around that-for example, the miscommunication trope is based around a *fear of vulnerability* and Sally Rooney does a great job of showing how these characters suffer from fear in their young adult life while apart, which makes the unspoken tension so much more believable when they’re together, if that makes sense. The miscommunication trope only works in this context-if a romance uses the miscommunication trope but the main characters have no fear being vulnerable/speaking their mind in other ways, then the point of the trope misses the mark and falls flat. Any trope can work if the root of why it exists is studied by the author and applied accordingly.

Here’s how to get a five star book based on how it works for me! First i just know my reading tastes so it’s easier in that sense and I dnf books that I’m not enjoying or think aren’t going to be very good and I only try and pick up books i think I’m going to love verses picking up subpar books… idk if that’s helpful but it works for me so far this year I’ve had nine five star reads and that’s because I don’t read a tone of books that are three stars! Like I only want read something I think is worth rereading and recommending to others! And most three stars don’t fit that category for me!

19:20 I have always found it so interesting how i absolutely hated happy place and beach read but loved people we meet on vacation. Like I felt that happy place and beach read were just so meh and I did not find the hype. And I heard so many people say how beach reads what’s their top fav book and raved on and on but I just DO NOT GET IT SORRY. I would love some more romance books similar to people we meet on vacation. ( it could also just be the vibes of when reading the books. I read the the first two at home and felt bored but when I read people we meet on vacation I WAS on vacation so maybe that added to how much I liked it 🤷🏼♀️. ) if your still reading my ramble thank you ❤

I am also a multi drink girlie and I get so judged! I was visiting a friend at her college and we went to a burger place. I got a combo and asked for a coffee and water. The cashier was like, wait do you want the water in place of the drink with the combo? I'm like no girl I want the coffee AND a cup for water. I'm ALWAYS drinking water and I don't like pop and try not to order it so I love when places offer coffee or a shake in place of soda. But other drinks don't quench my thirst like water does so I always have water too.
