Frankenstein is good, but it's much more slow paced, more about a slow descent into madness and about selfishness and obsession more than people think. I enjoyed it, but it was a quite slow read for me. Dorian Gray is a favorite classic of mine as well! Yellowface was great, but man, Kuang hits you over the head with her ideas rather than attempt any type of subtlety. 😂

Hoping to read giovanni's room before the end of the year as well. And the gilda stories has been on my shelves unread for too long RIP. My shame at being an eng lit student who loves gothic fiction and still haven't read dorian grey 🙈 i love frankenstein!! Black water sister is so much fun 🤗

Also I really loved Bad Cree by Jessica Johns, a debut native writer and sort of horror, def spooky and I think it’d be great for fall!

It's interesting how you said that when you got back into reading you were really into historical fiction and literary fiction and how you're really into romance books now but the funny thing is I mainly come to your channel for all the Fantasy and Sci-fi recs. So I guess you're just really multi-faceted Mina 😂

Frankenstein is a bit depressing, but I absolutely fell in love with the writing.

i always feel extra smart when i go read litfic after being away from it for a while. i tend to be picky about what i pick up, but it is a good change of pace after genre fiction. phenomenal list- so many titles i hadn't heard of! and i hope you love Dorian Grey!! A classic that is worth the time.

I *LOVED* Black Water Sister. I could've done without the relationship but still rated it 5 stars. I don't often annotate fiction books but I underlined SO much

Honestly, I enjoy horror by people of color way more than by white authors. Highly recommend Stephen Graham Jones 💕
