As someone who has skateboarded for 20+ years I can definitely relate, I’ve probably spent $4000 on decks alone not accounting for trucks and wheels, bearings, bushings, griptape, wax, and SHOES. It adds up, but there is no price too great for a lifelong journey of joy. ❤️

he was talking about using it as a progress capture when on a fixed line. If it’s already locked you’re pretty okay to go hands free, throw an overhand under you if you think something weird might happen

Great video, I’ve done an accounting on my own gear recently and watched the $ add up… working at REI for a bit helped out. For anyone out there, the big ticket items like ropes and draws and trad protection are not only expensive but also probably not something youre going to get until you are confident enough and experienced enough to use them safely. Ive been climbing for five years and I am nowhere near ready to actually go out and use the handful of cams I have. Yes, all this gear makes climbing seem inaccessible but really a pair of shoes and a harness will get you going on most climbing. After that, find a mentor/class to teach you how to use the rest safely, and invest as you become ready.

I’m brand new to the climbing community, so it was really helpful when you explained what a piece of equipment is used for. Wish you would have done it with each piece of gear. Maybe that’s for another video though. Btw, I’m a new sub and am really enjoying your content. Thanks!

2k can seem to be a lot, and yes it is quite an amount of money to spend, but a climbing rack is usually built over years of practice where you buy here and there the gear you need. So I feel like spending 2k over several years on hobby that you love and spend a lot of time doing is quite reasonable
@1kaotyk3 жыл бұрын
I think its a decent amount to spend on a hobby. It is on what you need rather than what you want.

very true! it's like 2k to save my life!
@xavierg29502 жыл бұрын
True but its gradually acumulated. Most people start with a harness and shoes snd go out with their friends, (I got some used shoes for 50 CAN and a new harness for 80 CAN) Thats 100 US. After that you can get a rope and a few draws and then bring out other friends. Only those that become pretty passionate go for the whole trad rack which is what is most expensive 100 dollars per cam where I live but by that time you probably know somebody with a discount on these things xD

👍 nice. My daughter and I just got into climbing and it cost around $3,000. So your $2000 for one person seems reasonable and on par for a budget-ish climber

2k definitely seems worth it. When you're spending money on the lifestyle you want and truly enjoying it I don't think you can go wrong with spending your money this way. I'm just getting into climbing and you can get buy with shoes, harness and chalk for a while just climbing in the gym. In terms of a hobby, climbing doesn't have a huge upfront cost, especially if you consider renting gear at a gym.

How do you get your rope back after you repel
@ondrejbenes4043 жыл бұрын
You have your rope in two strands - the half is cliped at the top of the rock and two strands lay down. On top of rocks the are usually bolts made for rappeling. Or you just let a piece of gear (sling and carabiner) on top. After rappelling you just pull on one strand and the rope falls down.
