Many years ago, a stake president shared with me how he remembers the 5 covenants. He said to just remember the phrase: O Say Gentlemen, Come Clean. O reminds him about: the law of Obedience. Say: the law of Sacrifice. Gentlemen: the law of the Gospel. Come: the law of Consecration. Clean: the law of Chastity.

Really interesting and educational as to what is really going on in our Temple worship/ceremonies. I have attended the temple for many years. Although I don't really understand much l do have a peaceful feeling that this is God's work and l am being of service to someone on the other side of the veil. My temple attendance also gives me a feeling of spiritual renewal that blesses my whole being. Wish l could attend more often. Thank you so much for your lessons and insights. Super job😊🙏

Thanks for the video! I just subscribed to your channel, since I started to see your videos on the Book of Mormon Central channel. I liked how you mentioned that ordinances and covenants are sometimes interchangeable. But wouldn’t ordinances be more focused on the ceremony/action/event/performance that initiates a covenant of the Gospel? That’s what I always had in my mind when discussing about ordinances and how it differs from covenants. Thanks again!

I think there is a little confusion here. All covenants have ordinances, and visa-versa. Baptism is an ordinance, and it has covenants that are associated with that ordinance. It would not be correct to say that baptism is a covenant - there are covenants associated with it. We perform ordinances by the power of the priesthood so that we can make covenants with God. We don't perform covenants, we perform ordinances. In the ordinances God, the power of Godliness is manifest (D&C 84:19-22). The new and everlasting covenant is eternal marriage in the temple that seals us together for time and all eternity.

When Jesus Christ died the veil of the temple was torn in half, Hebrews !0:19 Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus. by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is His flesh. The veil is gone, we can go directly to God, Jesus sacrificed Himself, no need to jump through hoops, and no covenants are needed except to believe in Jesus and His word. Jesus is the High priest over the house of God, which is in Heaven. We, all of us. who believe and trust in His word can go directly to God's kingdom and dwell with Him.
@andrewdurfee38962 жыл бұрын
Yes indeed the veil was torn and in the temples they are likewise torn. As a result of this those in spirit prison are able to be free. Christ did indeed pay the price of sin. Since He payed for our sins He is our new creditor. What does he ask of us? To be born again, aka to be baptized which is an ordinance, which has certain covenants associated with it. Narrow is the gate that leads to eternal life, but broad is the way that leadeth to damnation. We must enter the gate the lords way.

Can you tell me where temple covenants are given in the scriptures? If it is only found in the D&C, how do we know these words aren’t just from men? Jesus never taught them, and they were not taught in the book of Mormon. The scripture that keeps coming to mind is “cursed is he that puts his faith in the arm of the flesh”

A thought that came into my mind as I read this. How do we know that Jesus never taught them? Not everything was written down in detail. Maybe it was too sacred to write down at that time. Just a thought.

Awesome, great to hear the good news explained with a view to making and keeping covenants. Something many churches don't do anymore. Great to see the church holding the standards God wants us to know and understand.
@ZelphBallard-bg9mt9 ай бұрын
Unfortunately the penalties are not clearly taught and the blessings are emphasised when it is taught. Once people enter into the covenant then the church can get you to do whatever they determine, and they can manipulate you and use fear and guilt. Covenants to get things from me in this life for something that might supposedly happen in a next life, no thanks. Better to live a moral, fulfilling life to its fullest and face death without fear

Could someone help me understand which blessings, specifically, flow from obedience to the 5 temple covenants? All I can gather is that if we don’t obey them we will be in Satan’s power, supposedly. Feels like a threat, which I have trouble reconciling with a loving God. I can’t find any good explanation how the “covenant path” actually does anything specific for us, other than a hand-wavy “it gets you into heaven”. How is this not a works based gospel?

Hello, as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of latter-day saints it's my belief that only through the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ are we saved however I do believe that we show our love to the Lord by keeping his commandments we show our love by our works and I believe this keeps us in line with his will and in return protects us from the ways of the world however we do fail I'm living proof but through his grace and his mercy and through repentance I am forgiven I'm so thankful to the Lord for the sacrament in which I take every Sunday to renew my covenants with him and the ceiling power of the temple or my grandparents and my mother my wife and I will be sealed for eternity and soon I hope my children and grandchildren

@@Jessa1111 Sure I don't disagree. Works are important. Our works are a result of our faith in Jesus Christ. I truly believe if you do not have works then you do not have Christ in you. That being said. works are not Ordinances such as temple work etc. The book of Mormon teaches us that once Christ fulfills the law that the ordinances will be done away with.

Dont you think God could bring eternal life and exhaltation to an individual for example who dies in childbirth, without that person been babtised etc. Perhaps Man thinks the Only way to exhaltation is through plea barginning , making aggreements? Perhaps Moses made the 10 commandments up himself so as to establish power and Authority as a leader?

@@keithlott1916 God gave the Law to reveal His standard of absolute righteousness to convict us all of our true guilt before Him, so that we would see our need for the gospel. For I through the law am dead to the law, that I might live unto God. I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. @@keithlott1916 COLOSSIANS 2 2 For I would that ye knew what great conflict I have for you, and for them at Laodicea, and for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh; 2 That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ; 3 In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. 4 And this I say, lest any man should beguile you with enticing words. 5 For though I be absent in the flesh, yet am I with you in the spirit, joying and beholding your order, and the stedfastness of your faith in Christ. 6 As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: 7 Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving. 8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. 9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. 10 And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power: 11 In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ: 12 Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead. 13 And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; 14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; 15 And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it. 16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: 17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ. 18 Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind, 19 And not holding the Head, from which all the body by joints and bands having nourishment ministered, and knit together, increaseth with the increase of God. 20 Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances, 21 (Touch not; taste not; handle not; 22 Which all are to perish with the using;) after the commandments and doctrines of men? 23 Which things have indeed a shew of wisdom in will worship, and humility, and neglecting of the body: not in any honour to the satisfying of the flesh.
