It was, in a weird hidden way, the real villain song of the movie. It sets up Abuela's origins and motivation for the entire movie (and her life) and the reason why she messes things up mistaking the importance of her home vs her family; and it puts her into a completely sympathetic light.

This movie was one of if not the best Disney movie I've ever seen. First of all, the animation quality was spectacular. Everything was so realistic and detailed yet so Disney-like at the same time. I felt like I was in the movie. Second, the cast for this movie is amazing. Their voices match the diverse personalities of their characters and their singing voices are great. Third, Lin Manuel Miranda did a terrific job with the songs in the movie. I loved every song and some of them, especially "We Don't Talk About Bruno" gave me chills because of how good it was written. 🥰🥰🥰

I believe the trauma had to do with Miguel's great great grandfather Hector leaving the family for his career, which in turn made hector's wife raise coco on her own without music and the following generations (Miguel's grandma and her child/children) were raised without it as well. They were also all raised without ever knowing that Hector tried to come back but he died before he could get back home because his partner Ernesto (the villain) poisoned him.

I have to say I love how the animation in “What Else Can I Do” is actually supposed to be a metaphor for Isabella’s emotions in the song. Especially in her room where everything is vibrant and nothing is perfectly colored in the background which would be the opposite of who the perfect version of Isabela is. And this just adds to the song’s meaning because it’s a call for an escape from that expectation of perfectionism. That’s why I think her song is better than Luisa’s call for an escape of expectations. It might have cost millions to animate but it just blends so well with the song.

I agree. The first time I saw the strong sister and thought she would be some typical muscular boring animation character, but in fact, her MV is one of the best! And those dancing donkeys in her fantasy make her look like she is on drug or something. Being honest, I think "Dos Oruguitas" deserved the 1st place by far. It is not only the song of Pedro, but also a song of moving forward, acepting change and the burden of a death... Also, when I heard the song the 1st time, I was sure it was an old Colombian song (imagine my surprise when I learned that was new). "We dont Talk about bruno" is one of my favorites by far, but is not that deep or meaningful.

Totally agree on Dos Oruguitas. But for me, We Don't Talk About Bruno, did have a deeper meaning. It shows how, as an outcast and a misfit, you reputation can really screw you over. It doomed Bruno to a life inside the walls. Not even because he was ashamed of his visions or reputation, but because of that his reputation would harm Mirabel and his familia as a whole.

We Don't Talk About Bruno isn't supposed to be deep. Most Disney songs are meant to be catchy, understandable, and have simple lyrics-- because, at the root of it, these movies are made for children. I think Dos Oruguitas was a beautiful song, and I hope that it wins an Oscar, but in terms of songs that I feel did the best in the movie, I think We Don't Talk About Bruno deserves the top spot. Also, this song was paired with excellent dancing, beautiful art, and absolutely stunning perspective and angle play. The scene with Camilo where he's transforming between himself and Bruno is so fluid, gives off the right air where it's not creepy but definitely off-putting, and the growling his actor incorporates into his singing style makes the entire segment so fantastic. The way Dolores whispers her entire section, as though she knows Bruno is listening to is a fantastic piece of both foreshadowing and complex song variation. Also, the way all of the voices overlap just adds to the magic, and the broadway style dancing is a great touch of Lin-Manuel Miranda's own history with entertainment. It's a wonderful representation of what Miranda does best. Dos Oruguitas is a beautiful song, I don't deny that, but incorporating every aspect of the song--including visuals and character representation-- into the mix brings We Don't Talk About Bruno to a steady 1st place.

The best part about We don’t talk about Bruno is it has the feel of a Broadway song. Especially with the way they were dancing after the climax of Mariano coming. It really shines how Miranda has the ability to play multiple people at once while coming up with lines for these songs, its kind of like blackout from in the heights with 5 people singing at once and the only thing the lines have in coming is that they’re on the same time signature, its pure genius!!!

Honestly Waiting On a Miracle should be way higher up. I know it's short and doesn't have as many tricks and twists and details as the other ones, it's just such an underrated song in the movie. The lyrics and visuals are amazing, and I feel like it would resonate with such a wide range of people. People of any backgroung can somewhat relate to the concept of feeling of seeing others thrive and be special and feeling like you're nothing compared to them.

This is simply just my opinion list but ... 1. Surface Pressure ( super relatable 2 people that hide there nerves and how much pressure can get to someone ) 2. Waiting on a miracle ( mirabels struggle not 2 cry when Antonio gets his gift and she's still left without 1 very emotional ) 3. Family madrigal ( mirabels explanation about her entire family's gifts while avoiding the question about her gift is very very funny ) 4 . Waiting on a Miracle is probably in my top 2. It made me feel things. I cried. Imagine the feeling of being ostracized in your own family..i felt this on a personal level because i am so different from the rest of my family. Surface pressure I also felt attached to because of growing in a single parent household. I had to shoulder a lot of responsibility and be a confidente for my mom. These 2 felt personal and made me cry quite a bit.
