As a Canadian I can’t imagine tripping without wearing pants the entire time. Summers are definitely too warm for them but the bugs are so bad it’s better to be too warm in pants then eaten alive in shorts. Edit: gotta add that the mosquitoes and deer flys are bad enough to wanna wear long clothes regardless of it being 30 Celsius or more (well over 100f) but because winters aren’t getting cold enough anymore ticks are brutal now with Lyme disease becoming way too common so shorts aren’t even worth it in the bush here.

I always wear very lightweight long pants, too. Yeah, they're hotter than shorts, and I don't like being hot, but there are many things I don't like even more: mosquito bites; tick bites; chigger bites; spider bites; skin scrapes from rock scrambling; climbing into my nice comfy sleeping bag with grimy, filthy legs . . . :D :D

I enjoy your videos so much. I live in Northwest NJ close to the AT and walk segments of it at least once a week. I met some really cool hikers recently and they were envious of me being able to hike the AT whenever I feel like it -- and I said I was too old and out of shape to go on long hikes... and now I regret saying that. I am more in shape than I was a year ago and I LOVE watching your vlogs. I won't ever get any younger than I am AND I love being on any trail so maybe... I am considering going on longer hikes now, in part thanks to watching and following you. I have never commented before but now I will more often. :-)

Half my hiking wardrobe comes from your videos. I got my purple MH Summit Grid hoodie because of yours, my OR Astroman sun hoodie, my baleaf hiking pants, and other various articles of clothing because of what I see on your videos. But I must say I trust your judgment because they all ended up being great purchases. Thanks for sharing all this fantastic gear!

Great video, Taylor. Is there a reason you don't wear hiking boots? Is it the extra weight? They're much better in streams with keeping feet dry. etc.

Have you ever considered switching out your tent for a hammock, such as an ENO, with a tarp and bug net? It would make more room in your bag. Mind you, I don't know how much the weight comparison would be in comparison to your tent. As for rain and humidity, I agree that it's difficult to find the right balance when it concerns clothing options. It's difficult to find a rain jacket that is not going to build up humanity on the inside vs one that will keep you dry from the rain. I learned that just because a product is made by a popular outdoor clothing company doesn't necessarily mean that it's going to function as advertised. More expensive doesn't always mean that it will be better. I now use a Champion rain jacket, the best rain jacket I have ever owned, which cost way less than the fraction of the price of my previous Marmot one. As for clothing, I found that synthetics don't function well in wet and humid environments. Under those conditions it takes forever for them to dry. Cotton is way better, until it gets wet. Then you end up with the same problem. It's like a dog chasing its own tail.

Definitely not a fan of mold. Maybe not do-able on a thru-hike but those little bite valves usually come apart and after a little bleach bath (with the tubes) are good as new. I do this all the time for my bladders and stuff at home.

Great gear review! Thank you! I’m wondering if I could ask you a couple of questions about your shoes. I’m having a hard time finding information about soles & arches. I totally agree that you need to try them on first. Do your Saucony Peregrines have good arch support? I have high arches & get foot pain when wearing shoes without good arches. The Saucony Peregrine is one of the shoes that has been recommended to me. Unfortunately, all of the recommended brands tend to be expensive. I’m willing to pay but want to seek out recommendations from people who have actually hiked in them. Few people have high arches so shoe companies don’t address this very often. Do you hike in the trail runner or a regular running shoe version? Do they have good gripping soles on wet surfaces ? I hike in Acadia and need good soles on wet granite boulders. I’m a fairly short person so I have to be able to climb over rocks that tall people negotiate easily. After seeing you hike the Whites in the rain, I assume they do just fine. Again …. Thanks for sharing your gear! I always appreciate seeing gear that works well and is carried well for women. There’s not as much information out there for gear that works for women although companies seem to be working on this. I especially like your thoughts on backpacks. I like your Unbound backpack.

Your gear videos are interesting and informative. I always imagine the brand makers are sitting around a conference table watching your videos nervously waiting until you get to their merchandise: "What will she say? What will she say?" Cuz, I mean, you're NAHAMSHA! So, I breathe a sigh of relief when an item gets a good review 🙂 but kinda feel sorry when one doesn't. 🙁 But, like you said... there are pros & cons for everything, right? That's life! 🎭🤩☯️ P.S. My fave gear is the water filter bottle because back in the olden days, we had to use iodine and an eye dropper to filter stream water (or, we could boil the water but that wasn't always an option in the wilderness). 🪵🔥💦

From camping I have learned to never sleep in that day's clothes. You sweat during the day and at night, then you wear those wet clothes and feel miserable. Sleep in underwear and let the sleeping bag/quilt do it's job. Hopefully, the day clothes can dry in the tent. I call it a "wall wart." Sweet revenge on Chet by letting him star in the bloopers: Well done.

Well done. Until the bloopers, I had no idea Chet was being creepy staring at you. In every hobby, some stuff that you hope is permanent, ends up needing changes, upgrades, or replacement. You seemed to manage it well, except that I will admit to wanting to yell at the screen to replace your socks before you did. Trying to nurse them along, was a mistake IMHO. Some things like that, I'd replace on a preventive schedule rather than waiting for a problem.
