Here's a VERY obscure fact: Frog-rays from DS1 have an unique animation and attack which happens only when they get on a water source (You can lead them to one of the puddles in Darkroot). This attack is the same the New Londo jellies use, but apparently it doesn't actually apply any status effect? Hey, jelly finder here. Jellified's stamina reduction effect does not function in-game. The reason behind this is very funny though. The Jellified effect itself was LITERALLY copy/pasted from the leech covered, fly covered effects from DEMONS SOULS, which use an alternative (older) stamina modifying system that no longer works in DS1, but can still be set via the special effect system. This is the only used DS1 effect I've seen that uses this defunct system.

limit maybe something you could investigate are the few enemies in DS2 (SotFS) that have infinite stamina. for example, on the platform where you first encounter the Pursuer, there are hollows that can run and attack literally forever. there are a couple more places around where there are hollows like this, such as when you enter the ballista room, and the ambush on the large sword. I also suspect that it's possible that when the game knows you have souls to collect in a bloodstain, that it may increase the aggressiveness of some enemies. this is hard or impossible to confirm though. but there is definitely something going on with aggressiveness or even stamina regen to buff certain enemies, particularly in DS2 SotFS.

But the jailers are the opposite, you think its the gas they release, but its actually their gaze that lowers your max HP value. What a fun little symmetry.

So about the locust preachers and the wax. I did some basic digging on Wikipedia and there are in fact wax producing insects native to Asia which might have inspired its presence in the game. The thing the locust boiz would do where they burrow into the ground is also vaguely reminiscent of the sedentary lifestyle of the scale insects which produce aforementioned wax as well as how some locust species oviposit underground. After doing some even more reading on how plagues of locusts actually form I think this is 100% a deliberate thematic decision. What’s fascinating and reminds me specifically of how the locust enemies were implemented in dark souls is how grasshoppers and locusts (which are actually the same exact thing) display a very unique morphological and behavioral dimorphism between a solitary and communal form. Specifically when a period of drought ends and strong rainfall is present the locusts start fucking like crazy and eventually there are so many that the newly born ones bump into each other during their nymph stage of development which apparently triggers serotonin release in their bodies and this is what catalyze the morphological development into the communal/gregarious form as they mature as opposed to the basic ass chill hippie grasshopper which they would normally be. In the gregarious form the locusts basically go kaioken and their metabolic rate ramps up many times over, they even completely change color. They start roaming around as this massive pack of unbridled consumption eating every piece of plant matter nearby and eventually merging with other groups of locusts that formed somewhere else to form bigger and bigger plagues. This is essentially what the preachers are talking about when they mention the “feast” beginning. The fact that this only happens after a drought ends and gives way to rainfall distinctly reminds me of how the locust preachers only surfaced at the very end of the world. The “rain” in the context of dark souls would be the proliferation of the dark/deep, which we know is connected to water, after the end of the drought (age of fire). It seems to me that they were implied to have been hiding this entire time waiting for the right conditions to go apeshit and consume the world. Which brings me back to the scale insects from before; they are like the insect version of barnacles. They attach to a plant and constantly suck out it’s sap as food. They then secrete a hard shell around their body as protection while they just chill out for the rest of their lives. I think the implication in the wax attack for the locust preachers is that they were basically doing what scale insects do during the entire time from the beginning of the first flame. Sitting deep underground in a protective waxy shell and feeding on something parasitically. What they fed on I’m not really sure, but it could be anything from the fire or humanity, to archtrees or chaos vegetation. I’m gonna do some more digging and see if there is any obvious connection between the locust guys and what their sedentary food source may have been, but the most plausible option in my opinion is humanity. Keep in mind that humans have a long history of farming the wax from these scale insects which gives massive credibility to the theory that the scholars in the grand archives were essentially farming the waxy goop from the locust preachers. We already know the church of lothric was in bed with the deep, but this seems to connect the scholars with it as well. So if you see any weird waxy blobs attached to any trees in the previous games please let me know. Edit: Apparently they drop pale pine resin. . . The description of the item even suggests it is probably not actual pine resin . . . It begs the question what the red chunks in the pale pine resin are though. Edit: the “sermons” given by the locust preachers could be a parallel to the mutualistic relationship between scale insects and ants.

Locust preachers have an animation where they try to eat you. They also talk about eating you while they fight. Humans/undead are obviously their prey

Ok, I know limit has plenty of great references, but I was NOT expecting the Marco Pierre-White olive oil joke🤣

What was the joke? I only noticed the guy was pouring what it seems to be a little too much oil
@ashersmasher23132 жыл бұрын
@@steampunkastronaut7081 there's a video of just him adding olive oil to stuff, and it looks like he puts a ton. On top of that, he says what he does fast, so it sounds like one word. For instance, when he says generous amount of olive oil, the comments on the video will say "generosamounaolivol"

Holy shit the “how do I shot web” at 1:20 is so funny. It brings back so many memories of early KZbin. Some Elden ring players weren’t even born yet when that line first hit KZbin
