Thank you for this thorough review! I’m planning to use HOD Little Hearts For His Glory this fall for my first grader along with The Good and the Beautiful’s Language arts and possibly math now thanks to your review! I really appreciate how you edited and filmed this review. You gave us close up flip throughs of the books and were very detailed and to the point. I watch a lot of reviews on KZbin and this by far has been the most useful and informative for me. Thank you, thank you!

We are really enjoying the revised Language Arts with TGTB. The apps and videos are such a welcomed change of pace. We switched to the new level 2 after finishing about half of the old level 2 and I’m so glad we did.

We love Beyond Little Hearts! You will have a great year! The science has fun activities in Beyond and each year after in the HOD guides they do more with science. We’ve used the HOD guides from LHFHG through Creation to Christ. We actually used The Good and The Beautiful for a while for math and LA too but have switched back to using the Heart of Dakota resources (my older girls do use Teaching Textbooks though). Love the review, hope you do another for Beyond 😊

Hi Sarah! You should definitely give All About Reading a try if level one ends up not working for you. All of the stories are in a book and there are a lot of hands on activities that my daughter enjoyed. There are also magnetic letters that are used in a lot of the lessons. My daughter is a reluctant reader but always wanted to do All About Reading. Best of luck in your homeschooling journey!

Look into Logic of English. Completed the entire phonics program with my oldest. It includes games and controlled readers. Readers are non fiction as well and you can branch out into so many unit studies.

TGTB has good items. We've enjoyed some of their mini science units.

Thank you for your review! You asked about science curricula that includes a lot of hands on experiments. I like Mystery Science-an online program that includes a project nearly every day that helps the kids understand the ideas in a way that meets them at their current grade level. It's online and does require a subscription, but not a book. It is not a Christian curriculum. As for a great science curriculum that has lots of experiments (every day) and is Christian, we like Wile's Science in the Beginning series. His texts are all written in story form so it's easy to understand. Furthermore, he has high school curriculum which will help transition them into harder topics. Thanks for reading this!

Since my daughter is going to summer school I rearranged the lessons to be history and science at home. For history I am introducing each state from the United States plus showing a map of the United States for her to color in to know where the state is located on the map and including history from each state. Still working out the Science lessons at the moment.

I have loved The Good and the Beautiful. I taught both of my younger two to read with it. But I am finding they need more. My youngest is an avid reader already. Having almost finished the new Level 1 (including the phonics for both Level 1 and Level 2) I decided to purchase Beyond LH for her instead of the next level of G&B. We plan to start Beyond in February. I've decided to try it as written with their copy work and level 2 spelling instead of adding G&B or other LA. I think at the lower levels the two could work well together. But at a 4th grade or higher level (where my older kids are) the two programs would be too much work and a lot of overlap. She is my guinea pig; we are testing out HOD to see if it could be a good fit for all of my kids.

We love HOD, but my daughter did NOT care for the Burgess Books at all. We got through three of them and she would moan and groan every time I took the book out to read. We did end up shelving them and picked some other books for read aloud. Kids definitely either love them or hate them 😆

So true!!! I don’t think I would do them again just because I think I would be bored and my 4 year old already read them with us but who knows! I did love them!

Maybe for science look into the Science In The..... series by Jay Wile. We used it last year (the first in the series, In The Beginning) for my young ones and they all loved it. Daily experiments, short questions for retention at the end of the lesson and a quick read of the lesson. It’s also science based through a Biblical view. It’s great!

Thank you! I will look into it!

G&B binding is THE WORST! We’ve done 4-5 books with them and we’ve never made it thru a whole book with both covers.

Have you found a history resource you like? (You mentioned not liking that last book. And also maybe having one through more recent times.) Just curious. I can see what you mean.
