@@MountCalvary74881 I was too. I noticed in the footage there was a thrown shoe, hopefully that explains the white horses injury to his back left hoof, running shoeless on hard tarmac would result in a painful injury. Many speculated that he may have broken his lower leg but hopefully that is not the case. I am sure the army veterinary surgeons are taking great care of them. The horses must have been terrified. So pleased to learn the injured soldiers and the two members of the public are recovering well.

@@deenieteenie3934 The horses would not be going out on London's roads, (even enroute to the sand track in Hyde Park), unshod... Obviously they can have their shoes removed (or be shod with toe clips, to help stop their hooves from splitting) whilst retired ir turned out into fields for their 'holidays' but for general work on any hard surfaces, they'd be shod with shoes suited to them, (their hooves, particularly if 'tender' or 'shelly' - brittle), _and_ the roads they travel along. 🐎🐎 🐴🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🐎🤔🐎🇬🇧🐎❤️🐴🖖

I've never been able to own a horse but used to be a keen recreational rider for many years. I really love them but yes have been on the end of some scary moments. The worst probably was riding in Exmoor along a ridge with several companions. We could hear a helicopter really loudly but couldn't see anything. All of a sudden 2 Apache helicopters out training rose up from the valley below and drew level with us. I don't know who got the biggest fright us or the pilots.I could see one of the pilots face. Realising this was not a good idea they took off as quickly as possible at an extreme angle. Unbelievably the horses did not spook at all but I'll never forget it and what might have happened.😀🇬🇧❤️

Some may need a bit of a break to get over it and there's an MOD establishment at Melton Mowbray in Leicestershire I believe that takes military animals for rest, treatment recuperation and training. Thank you for this as I have been very worried about the poor grey covered in blood, with people saying it had a badly injured leg. At the end of the day, every horse however well trained and used to situations is at heart a fight or flight animal. The horrendous noise that they heard was enough to unsettle them and cause panic. This wasn’t helped by people screaming btw and I couldn’t believe the bikes and motorbikes still going. That makes no sense! If the rest of the traffic is stopped and there’s two tonne of horses charging at you you don’t take the opportunity to pass the blooming bus! I can’t believe that no one knew stopping techniques. I read somewhere that a police vehicle “chased” them for several miles blue lights flashing. While I believe the police vehicle was to prevent cars overtaking them rather than chasing the horses, the blue lights would add to the horses’ panic. Some reports made it sound like the horses had become dangerous - madness taken over them as they tried to kill people in the city, when in fact it was prey animals terrified for their lives trying to escape. I hope all the riders are OK. It’s not nice when you land on grass but on concrete it’s awful. I also pray that all the animals are ok, recover quickly and that there weren’t any fatalities because there was an awful lot of blood plus they would be in shock too. Thank you Neil for giving a sensible account as usual xxxx❤❤
@KeiPalace
@KeiPalace Ай бұрын
The police vehicle did NOT CHASE with a siren, and blue lights flashing would not spook the horses further as they have been trained to be used to the city, the vehicles, the sounds and noises of PARADES, due to daily exercise in the City. The horses were only dangerous in that they are LARGE and HEAVY and unpredictable, if you know horses as I do, you know you can't get in front of them, you have to let them run themselves out before they can be safely brought to a stop. If you hear hoofbeats (a common thing) in London you will assume the horse has a RIDER and is under control, also the horses went right round a corner into traffic which would astonish anyone, there are a million blind spots with tall buildings all around, and as a driver - on a bike or car - you are concentrating on your route - and once committed to going forward, you can't quickly pull to a stop or even have time to get out of the way! You can see that in the footage.

Having had horses since I was ten, and having been an equine nurse, I've been very concerned, knowing how the terrified horses can so easily injure themselves and others. I truly appreciate your understanding and compassion for the horses, their riders, and the general public. I immediately thought of how this would affect HRH the Princess Royal and His Majesty the King, as they are so close to the Household Cavalry and their love of horses. I deeply admire them both, and appreciate your sensitivity and caring for all of those involved. After this happened, I knew we could all count on you for letting us know about the event and the recovery of those involved. This brought back horrible memories of the atrocities carried out in Hyde and Regents Park on 28th July 1982. I rarely cry but seeing the poor grey horse covered in blood, as well as the other horses that were hurt and scared in flight mode, was traumatic. I hope they and the trooper who was injured recover quickly and completely. The bystanders who captured and calmed these beautiful animals were wonderful and saved them from further harm. Big thanks to them. Accidents happen but thankfully the situation ended without fatalities. Get well soon all involved. 😢

the bystanders didn't capture - you should never try to stop a running horse, they waited until the horse wore itself out, slowed down, and then went to calm it, at some risk to themselves.

True, although I learned to ride on one that was nearly so. The only time I ever saw her lose it was after a cutting competition (she and her sister were Quarterhorses), when a crowd gathered around us. It spooked her and she went straight up. I calmly told the crowd to move back (which they did). It was a scary second or two, but we got through it without anyone getting injured (and I learned that I could control a freaked out horse).
