The Light Brigade of Hussars commanding from Lord Cardigan was a disaster back in The Crimean War 1853-1856 (Queen Victoria Era) According to the reports back then, there had been lack of communication and the Cavalry was wiped out by the Russians Not to mention, in general, the British troop was much effective. At least, they won the Battle of Balaclava with the aid of the French and Turcs 🇬🇧🇨🇵🇹🇷⚔️🇷🇺

A leopard-skin forming part of the saddle-cloth shabraque or even replacing it is indicative of a Hussar regiment of the British cavalry. Many such regiments saw lengthy service in British India where the custom developed. The 21st Hussars in particular used the whole pelt and leopard head as shown here. Other Hussar regmnts also followed this. Churchill was in 21st at chage of Omdurman. It is a very famous regiment now amalgamated with 17th Lancers.

I asked in a previous screening of the video following the General Inspection, what the story was behind thenleopardskin saddlecloth. Interestingly also, the officer inside the leopard-skin equipped officer is also from 17th Lancers (another v'famous regiment). He is wearing a Lancer Czapka (Lancer cap) not the Hussar bonnet, This cap was adopted when Britain formed Lancer regiments having been savaged by Napoleons use of Polish Lancers. Now only the Lancer Honour Guard (which this might be) of the new amalgamated Royal Regt. Lancers wear these. The Lancer Regt is of course a combat tank regiment.

It is probably well over 100 years old by now! The last time full dress uniform was worn routinely buy all Regiments in the British Army was in 1914 immediately before WW1. I doubt the Guards Brigade will use fake bearskin for a long time. The government tried to force them to use fake bearskines a few years ago but the Guards refused as they both don't look Wright and are not cost efficient

The next to the leopard skin guy leans slightly forward because he is having difficulty settling into his saddle. His tension transfers to his horse which is tense and jigging, causing more discomfort and tension in the rider, and the cycle repeats. Maybe the guy in the fatigues walking is the riding teacher.

Recently it was said that the armed forces are not strong enough to defend this country, but can afford this. It's said that it brings in tourists so let the Tourist Board pay for it. In other countries thay have a tourist tax, why spend the Denfece budget on it, and use highly trained, and at great expence, soldiers as actors. I'm a former soldier, and have been in units who could not replace worn out clothing and equipment, and when I was posted to BAOR the only cold weather clothing I got was a secondhand brown pullover.
