It seems like a lot of folks underestimate the potential for making Hagrid as a Witherbloom character. The magical creatures or having undead or dangerous magical pets side seems underrepresented in consideration of Witherbloom.

I typed out a long comment but it just boils down to I would love to play or dm this adventure, I never really got to experience Highschool right, and never got to experience college, I just want to experience it right this time, I was very sick and wasn’t looking good and I wasn’t able to really have The Highschool Experience, so looking forward to it.

Honestly I'm super excited about Strixhaven despite not playing any MtG but seeing Amy's passion and excitement in this is the highlight of the video! She's an absolute delight and has an infectious smile, seeing her grin at Michael's responses and get giddy at the ideas made me more excited for the concept of enrolling at this enchanted academy

I'm gonna get all Unseen University up in this book. I loved Discworld as a kid and Pratchetts depiction of magical academia shaped a lot of my sense of humour as well as my DM'ing style

I really enjoy the fact that both hosts genuinely seem excited about every topic in every video. Although I wish the book itself had more world building. It felt too spread out. Some source. Some adventure. Some monsters Wish there was more adventures in other colleges Wish there was more interesting activities. (Mage tower especially was disappointing) Although the book overall was really cool, I just wish it could've felt more complete

Ever since I started watching Dimension 20's Fantasy High game, I have never been more ready for this book! Excited to see how they tackle the school life as a D&D game, and what I can use from it in my ongoing game.

I am so in for this! The wizard that I have been playing as ran away from his college, for back story reasons, but this addition might help me develop a story after he’s returned and restore the campus to what it should be

This is going to tie in well with an idea I've been toying around with. The idea is to build a campaign 0 to help onboard new players to D&D. The encounters will focus on what skill checks are and how the mechanics of the game are played before the players have to choose their class or ability scores. I'm trying to figure out a way to sit down and start playing D&D without any character prep while also allowing players to build a character they vibe with.
@saviourking25483 жыл бұрын
I can see that expanding into like a "campaign zero." Something short, sweet and fun to walk through the game and set the proper comfort level for the group. Can even phrase skill checks and other mechanics as in-game lessons!
@ReallyRobEgan3 жыл бұрын
@@saviourking2548 Exactly! It could jumpstart play and allow players to choose proficiencies and ability scores (like a point buy) after each session as they learn what the skills & abilities are used for.

As much as I wanted an official book for Zendikar or Kaldheim, I don't think I'll mind this setting since I enjoyed the set (less so the story that came with), but it is the story that's got me a little iffy on it
@saviourking25483 жыл бұрын
That's something I like about D&D, how easy (and imo fun) it is to just take what works best for your table, like in your case the mechanics based on the card set you enjoyed without the story attached. While I might not grab everything, I'm excited to see what fun things I can pull from this book.

Its funny cause im on the fence i was going to introduce a university to my sandbox world on the main land but I also don't know if i want to just drop strixhaven in or design my own ill probably do it myself because im all sorts of masochistic with my world building

Sounds like this product might be useful to help inform your decisions, even if you don’t just drop strixhaven into your setting. Things like random tables or rules for the extra curricular activities could really help to spark your imagination?

This might just be an unpopular opinion, but I have zero respect for the people who made the cited arguments against the Strixhaven subclass UA in the survey. The only legitimate issues with the subclasses were Prismari needed a bonus spell list and probably Unarmored Defense, and they needed to let bard pick up both of the last 2 class features at level 14. Half the published subclasses in 5e don't play into the mechanics of their base class at all. Half of all wizard schools are almost entierly ribbon abilities. The sorcerer bloodlines that use sorcery points can be counted on one hand. Fighter subclasses don't buff action surge. Less than half the bard colleges do anything to augment bardic inspiration. The majority of monk ways don't use ki points. Moon druid is the only pre Tasha's druid circle that does anything with wild shape. The idea that a subclass has to tie directly into the base class' gimmicks is nonesense. As for the argument that subclasses shouldn't be campaign setting dependent, no. Just no. At best that's an idiotic stretch. It's a pedantic nitpick. Especially in this case where there are established magic schools and adventuring academies in almost every popular D&D setting. If you don't have the imagination to figure out where to slot a cloister of mages, temple of monks, or a duelist or military academy who've studied a form of magic or combat themed after any given subclass, then you don't have the imagination needed to run a game.

Given the many issues that have come up around that lately, it really isn't. It's just hard to know which references others will get. Even here there's many made, from the ones that predate it like The Worst Witch and Unseen University, to those directly relevant to the D&D world, like Fantasy High. I think it's great that they put in the effort to not make people feel excluded.
