@@jakoblent4694 to be fair, you would need serious prep time for that spell. like having items to remove the need to sleep, eat, drink, or all body needs other than casting the spell, put yourself in a fortress in a pocket dimension, in an impenetrable sanctum with numerous guards, have all the neccessary compotents on hand, and then begin the proccess of universal destruction, hoping to succeed before you are killed by your enemies. or be a lich and be doing that. though i wonder if maybe some varient lore of a universe with this spell is that such a spell is only attempted by the most apocolyptic nihelists or the most narccessistic of death seekers. most arch demiliches have become such attempting to cast this spell, for the gods rarely allow such threats to the universe to remain unpunished even while thwarted.

You now have a high stakes race against the clock with resource management problems (as you don't want to backtrack to lose time). That could be interesting

The "destroy universe" is way too perfect. I'd allow that in one of my campaigns and yes probably make that what the players are trying to stop. I'd also allow the "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH" cantrip, with a few modifications, just because if courage the cowardly dog were a dnd character that's a cantrip he would totally have.

Honestly...I'd prob allow "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH" unmodified The 100 Foot radius is a ton, but like, that range on an AOE is so extreme that you couldn't actually use it in a lot of situations Best case scenario, you're hitting your allies for just as much as your enemies. And you use it when outnumbered Worst case, you're in a city and casting this injures a bunch of random citizens

At level 3 and above you can probalby go around a town just shouting and killing everyone who isn't someone of power (Veterans, Adventurers, Caster etc.) before they reach or even notice you. It's great but also horrible :D

If you were to cast Million Chains from a 199994th level spell slot, the spell would actually create one million chains. This proves it is the strongest spell in the game, as it was originally intended to be cast at that level, but was scaled down in power so that we puny mortals could catch a glimpse of its awe-inspiring strength without immediately perishing under the glory of one million chains (a lot of chains).

At 1M chains, the 1d4 deals on average 2M hit points, but because it takes 2 actions to actually deal the damage, it comes out to a nice 1M hit points/ action, or, in other words, 1 hit point/action/chain

Personally, I'd balance it by removing most of the flavor, reducing the range to 30 feet, and making the effect 1 sonic damage, no Frighten effect (or raise the spell to 2nd level with the effect of making them "frightened until the end of your next turn", but removing damage). Mostly because if I had players doing war cries at my table, I would quickly be banned from playing D&D.

I can imagine an entire 20th level campaign built around the "Destroy universe" spell. Imagine if the side effect of the spell was to send a telepathic signal detectable by every living being in the universe that lets them know that the end of the world is coming as soon as the ritual is started. Cities burn, people panic, riots in the streets, various apocalypse cults appear, deities and demigods scramble around trying to figure out who the fuck is deleting reality and why, and the players have a strict 1 month time limit to find whoever is casting it and stop him. Sounds like an epic adventure to end a long campaign with.

That Destroy universe could make an *AMAZING* campaign as it reminds me of Majora’s mask of where link has 3 days, but make that 28 days and the atmosphere reflects that by having every npc becoming hopeless of their fate, Players are actually gonna have to consider on how to spend their time, since travelling on the over-world can take DAYS to get somewhere, putting allot of pressure on the players and making them think ahead on what to do in this time limit. Oh and it allows someone else to be the DM so you can finally play :)

Strongly associated with the immaterial, and thus able to bypass defences. Well- mechanically there’s almost no creatures with any resistance or immunity to it. But the explanation for that mechanic is it bypassing defences. However, it isn’t as resistant to resistance as one might expect true damage to be, since resistance which apply to all damage types will include force damage. But most resistances with a set list of types won’t include force in that list

I sense a theme here. A lot of these spells have interesting ideas. For example the universe destroyer can be a campaign set around someone trying to cheat his way into becoming the king of hell by resetting the world and making them take his place. Also the primordial summon could be awesome if balanced correctly. Say for example that instead of the being just erasing somethings existence, instead it could be like a devastating area of effect spell where the summoned primordial one is an ancient spirit of fire the covers an area in a blanket of lava or makes everyone in an area burn from the inside out, up to, say 50 people and they take 10 d10 fire damage. Say it was used as a last resort in a war by a powerful mage to end a siege or to burn down a city, depending on the version. Just saying that you should use your imagination, and that scouring these homebrews (with a HEFTY dose of balancing) will definitely give you some great ideas for games.

Okey, so for instance: Make spell like 5th level, and make it do around the same damage as other 5th level spells do. For starters anyway. Not sure what primordial means here, but let's go with an elemental theme and everyone can just add their own flavor. You cast the spell, to which ... hmm you know what, let's do it like this: You target 10ft by 10 feet area with the spell as an action. Choose one element. It's concentration and one minute duration. Increase damage accordingly. As a bonus action on the same turn or any other turn during it's duration (need to check if you can hold it as ready action, because you should) you can end the spell to which an elemental according to your choice appears in this space and then attacks three times at three targets of your choice (can be the same target) Instead of saves it can be just simple attacks to reduce the complexity of the spell and damage type is elemental appropriate. If the spend ends before your choose targets, the DM chooses the targets. If you are on an appropriate elemental plane, place of infused power or you use a material component infused with said power the attacks ignore resistances. (as if you had the elemental adept feat) Or you can make another bonus like extra damage die or advantage.

Yeah, somatic components aren't "You have to perform a physical action". They're "You have to perform a complicated physical action". It mostly matters with armor, like how arcane casters in 3.PF only have a percent chance of their spell failing while wearing armor... only if it has somatic components. (Although like happened with alignment, 5e did away with this nuance, and made it so you can't cast *any* spells while wearing armor you aren't proficient with, not just ones with somatic components)

The 'Million Chains' thing is taken from the Trigun anime, where Vash's brother, who calls himself that due to his ability to produce an infinite number of blades from his body which he forms into 'chains' to cut through things, does this. He rarely forms millions of chains, just millions of blades *into* chains of great length.

Seeing that the "Aaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh" spell *doesn't exclude ALLIES, and frightens for 5 rounds even though you can cast it EACH round* ... it would be fun as hell, but must be a single player campaign it seems... or a cantrip for a BBEG. +Ah, and true damage isn't a thing in 5e, its just force damage with extra steps.

10th level spells were a thing back in a 2nd addition campaign setting back in Netheril. They were extremely powerful and could do things like create floating islands out of mountains, create volcanos, or steal people’s magic for yourself. There were also 11th level spell about interstellar travel, and a single 12th level spell called Karsus’ Avatar which lets the caster take the place of (take control of) a god, but used it on the goddess of magic (for some reason) and caused the fall of the empire, and the ban of spells under 9th level.

Cantrip: "Aarau's save universe" This spell counts as a wish spell. When cast it counters and completely nullifies "Aaru's destroy universe", saving the world from being destroyed. Every class can cast this cantrip at lvl 1.

For damaging spells just copying an existing spell and tweaking it usually works fine.

@@BramLastname That's a really good method, though I'll add that it's also important to scale the spell with damage type rarity in mind. Fire spells tend to do more damage because there are more creatures with resistance and immunity to fire than other damage types. Likewise spells with Con saves aren't as good as those with Intelligence and Charisma saves.

@@JWonn for most damage types this difference isn't actually that important, For example Necrotic is one of the most resisted damage types, But most of the creatures that resist it are never used. As such people think Necrotic damage is stronger than it actually is, Same with Psychic damage, there's a bunch of creatures that are immune to psychic damage, But people forget about that all the time. Since it's effective against humanoids, beasts and dragons, which seems to be the benchmark to beat, People think it's good regardless of how effective it is outside of those categories.

There could actually be a 9th level spell akin to "Arau's Destroy Universe", but it could be something like "Planar Cleansing", where the caster may choose a small plane of existence or pocket dimension and either erase it or empty it. Could be useful for dealing with something like a wizard BBEG who uses spells like Leomund's Tiny Hut to escape, or keeps their McGuffins in a bag of holding or something, this spell could effectively kill or force them out of their protective subplanes.

Aarau's Destroy Universe has brought a TON of ideas to my mind. You can add it to existing campaign at any point or my favorite of this would be adding it right at the end of a campaign. Your players have completed their arcs, they have faced off against the dark forces, and peace has been restored to the area. Just as the final page turns on them a announcement is echoed throughout the world that all will be destroyed in 28 days. Now our tired but seasoned adventurers must once again head out to stop this person, but they must find them, understand the spell being used, have the world react by having natural disasters flare up at random, but also have the one casting the spell to have a cult protecting him, thus forcing the players to play a political game and raise a army while trying to find the caster, and stopping it before its too late.

@@RosyBramble I guess that also means the party can't just bust that spell out even at higher levels, the DM could always just interrupt the casting (I mean getting attacked a few times over the course of 27 days isn't an asspull). While a villian can totally use it as a plot device.
