Thank you for your insightful video. Whenever I read a book that has deeper meaning, it is always a joy to look up your channel to find out more about it than I gleaned. I've only come to Kawakami books this year and her monologue and dialogue driven narratives are great. I love the way she weaves philosophy, concerns around Japanese societal constraint and angst together with romance. Your video opened my eyes to the eastern side that I missed altogether! I loved the nod to Murakami that she slipped in too. I read Breast and Eggs which I enjoyed a little better, but that's like saying I prefer silk to satin, both are great.

Have you read anything by Naoki Urasawa? I would highly recommend his work, especially Monster. He has this amazing ability to write complex plots with realistic characters that start of feeling seperate, but then all come together for satisfying pay offs. His medium is manga, but his story writing ability to the way he draws and convey's emotions really seperate him from the rest in his field.

I've heard of Monster and 20th Century Boys but never read them myself. I'm not sure if my library has them? I'll have to check!

@@TheCodeXCantina Monster is the better of the two, but 20th Century Boys is a lot more fun and light hearted. They both have genius villains who achieve their goals through intelligence and manipulation rather than violence. Monster also has a pretty good anime adaptation if you can't find the manga volumes.

@@50uv1k I found the fan service in the monogatari anime's just too cringe for me to continue watching. I might try read the light novels.
