And Mr Demme is fantastic. My kids started MUS with Primer. My 8th grader went with me to a homeschool convention and he was there. My son waited to speak to him at his booth. He saw my son waiting, cut his conversation short and hustled over to my son. He warmly greeted my child and talked to him about school and his interests. He asked my son his age, when he said "14," Mr Demme said, "Noooo, you're..." And my son laughed and answered "Onety-four!" Then he wrote a note to my son in his newest book and gave it to him. He really is just a lovely man.

I will say about MWC - grade 5 comes out next year, and grade 6 the following. Kate Snow has said she will recommend current programs once grade 6 is completed

Good to know! A little late for us, but I have heard great things about it!

We absolutely love Math U See! My youngest was using MWC and my eldest was using Math Mammoth, before we switched. There was an adjustment period as the way they teach concepts definitely is a bit different. However, I have seen such tremendous growth through it.

I have a question about Beauty and Truth, do you read and prep beforehand? How long does it take? How much manipulatives do you use during the lessons?

The only prep I had to do was gathering materials for the lesson, no other pre-reading was required and they list all the required materials at the top of each lesson. The lessons are short… for grade 4 it only took 15-20 minutes max. The manipulatives are very basic and few. Most of them are “made” by the student, like cutting a paper into 1/4’s, etc. I hope that helps!

Yes, thank you! I'm also planning on using MUS in the future when my son is older to be able to learn from videos instead from me 😅 especially with higher math

Have you done any research into Teaching Textbooks? It’s another I’ve seen recommended a lot. We just finished up Math with Confidence K but it does bother me that it won’t take us through high school.

Yes I have. I find Teaching Textbooks works well for some children, probably those children who are more “naturally” good at math. But because it’s so hands off, it’s possible for children to appear like they are understanding and progressing through the levels, and not really comprehending the concepts. For me, sticking with one curriculum up to high school, is about finding a way of teaching math that our children can understand and thrive in. Having taken upper level math courses, including university calculus, how it’s taught, and the right quantity of time and practice with the concepts is everything! I think Math with Confidence is excellent! But not all curriculum teach, review, and master math concepts well. So it can be hard when it comes time to switch.

@@littlebitsofbliss thanks for the reply. Sounds like I need to look at MathUSee deeper and see if that would be a good fit for my kiddos.

Same issue I ran into with the first editions of Good and Beautiful Math. They released 4 levels and then bailed on that approach entirely.
