There's also Hel, the goddess of Death, daughter of Loki, Njord, Skadi's husband, his sister Nerthus, Magni, Modi and Thrud, the children of Thor, Sif, Thor's wife, with beautiful golden hair and Sigyn, Loki's wife, who loved him and was loved by him more than anybody else.

In danish it is Tysdag-Onsdag-Torsdag and Fredag - in Faroe Islands the last one is Friggjardag. Frigg is the wife of Odin and thus one of the top godesses in Asgard. It is more likely that, having named the other three days for top gods, she would have Friday, rather than Freyja, who is actually not one of the Æsir of Asgard, nor is her brother Freyr - they are Vanir from Vanaheim and live in Asgard as a part of a truce agreement between the two worlds. - There is a day for the sun and a day for the moon - but the last day of the week is reserved for bathing in "pool-day". In the old language "laug" is pool. In Iceland we speek the oldest version of the still remaining norse tongue of the viking age and Laugardagur is pool-day, as sundlaug is swimmingpool. Best wishes.

My friend as one myself, going on about a decade, this video has lots of misinformation, like for an example, right out the gate, he says "Baldr is the wisest and noblest of the Gods" not true, he's not the wisest, he's the most beloved and kindest. Or "He lived in the Breidablik area of heaven where no evil could touch him." Not even true, he did live there, but it's not heaven nor even close to one. And no harm could come his way, not because of where he lives, but because of what Frigga did. Try reading the sagas and eddas before hopping on the internet, hell, if you want an actual good source of information from a content creator, look up Ocean Keltoi, he's a good one. But avoid Wisdom of Odin, Jacob is apart of the AFA.

Excellent overview though you do get some minor items wrong. Freyr and Freyja are not "gods" of Asgard (Æsir plural - Ás singular) but Vanir from Vanaheim, living in Asgard as per a truce between the two rival worlds. Baldur's death was not an accident. "Iduna" is named "Iðunn" (the wife of Bragi) and "Gna" is "Gná" (sounds like "now" with a "g" in front). Loki is not a god but the son of giants and the adopted son of Odin. But well done and please continue the good work.

Loki is not the adopted son of Odin, that's only in Marvel movies. Loki and Odin are something called "blođbroddir"s
@howser1961
@howser1961 Жыл бұрын
@@raul88.88 Ok - and from what source do you have this incredible bit of information? The bulk of what is known today about norse mythology is found in the Eddas of Snorri Sturluson. Loki is detailed in the narrative Gylfaginning and in the poems Völuspá, Lokasenna and Skáldskaparmál. The only mention of Loki and Odin being in any resemblance of brotherhood is from Lokasenna. Loki has crashed a party at Ægir's place and all the gods are there except Þór, who was busy fighting trolls in the east. In the poem Loki demands a seat but Odins sons Bragi and Viðar are sitting there already. Loki then says: "Mantu þat, Óðinn, er vit í árdaga blendom blóði saman? ölvi bergia léztu eigi mundo, nema okr væri báðom borit." Roughly: [Do you remember Odin when we in early days mixed our blood and drank the ale you wouldn't partake unless we both were served"] This by no means confirms that there was a blood bond between them - or what was more commonly referred to as "fóstbræður" [fosterbrothers] and there is no mention of this in other narrative. The ramblings of Loki in the feast are those of a drunken frenzy and are most likely composed by a christian poet in an attempt to ridicule the heathens and their old ways. He tells each of the gods to shut up before he humiliates them and he even gets Þór's ultimate demise wrong, when he calls him a coward in his inevitable battle with the wolf (Fenrisúlfur) when in Ragnarökkr Þór actually fights Jörmungandur (the Miðgarsormur) and dies soon after that. Loki's origin is quite detailed. He was the son of Laufey (and is named Laufeyjarson after his mother) and Fárbauti. They were jötuns from jötunheim but Loki lived in Ásgarður and is most often regarded as one of the Æsir despite his being a Jötun. This would indicate that Odin had some say in the matter as he ruled Ásgarður. Loki is not regarded as Odins peer but has a similar status as Þór. It is therefor more plausible to refer to him as Þór's adopted "brother" than to speak of him and Odin as blood- (or foster-) brothers. It translates roughly as: "There is one who is counted with the Æsir [the gods og Ásgarður] and some call the slanderer of the Æsir and the originator of deceit and dishonour of all gods and men. He is named Loki or Loftur, the son of the jötun Fárbauti. His mother is Laufey or Nál, his brothers are Býleistur and Helblindi. Loki is handsome and attractive, foul tempered, diverse in his ways. He has that trait called duplicity and cheats in all things. He always gets the Æsir into trouble and often out of trouble with trickery. His wife's name is Sygin and their son is Nari or Narfi". Loki travels with Odin and Hænir and also with Þór on many occasions. His offspring by the troll Angurboða are regarded as dangerous to the gods and to men and they are banished from the realm of the gods. They are Fenrisúlfur, Jörmungandur (the MIðgarðsormur) and Hel. Loki is not a god - he is a jötun and is allowed to live in Asgard only by the grace of Odin. Therefore it is not entirely wrong to speak of him as Odin's adopted son. The two of them are not "blóðbróðir" (bloodbrothers) but Þór and Loki however often are brother's in arms.

@@howser1961 what source ? Bro, every nose soruce says the same: Loki and Odin are not son and father, they are blood brothers. Hmm? I was playing a game of scrabble earlier on my tablet and the computer placed the word "as" down, and at the top of the screen the words definition came up, saying "As, a Nordic god" and i thought hmm, that's strange? never heard "as" being defined like that before, and never heard of a nordic god named "As", so hence why i am watching your video, I was waiting to hear you start with the letter A, but it went straight to B? So does that mean there is no nordic god named As? Then why did my tablet scrabble game give the definition of the word As, as a nordic god??? Well weird?

This video skipped a good handful of norse gods and goddesses. So probably not the best place to look for your answer. The best attempts to write the mythology down come in the form of the Eddas and the Heimskringla by Snorri Sturluson. He was an Icelandic historian, poet and politician who lived in the late 12th and early 13th centuries. I personally have not heard of a noise god by the name of As but it's possible they were mentioned briefly somewhere. Most of norse mythology and what we know of their gods want written down until some time after the viking age, do to it being passed down verbally instead of written until Snorri wrote it down of course. Art work also helped us note the more popular deities so maybe As was such a lesser deity that only a handful of people worshiped them enough to get a mention in a footnote somewhere leading to your scrabble game pulling that out their rear lol. If you happen to find the info you are searching for I'd love to know it, I love norse mythology and even i have not learned all there is yet 😁 happy hunting

Hi thanks for the reply to my comment it said As was from Asguard, think that's how it's spelt. I found a lot of info on the Norse gods in relation to the kings of both Wales and Brition, deriving from the "gods" and giants, whilst looking into ancestry sites, funny how they mention the se.charators.Yet at the same e time saying they are myths? It seems most of the kings were descendants of these giants and "god" For instance Lord of Rayleigh Robert Fitzsvein de Essex born 1085-1132 who ancestors were Rollo Thurston "Brico" Rollo the Viking 885-945 Further down the line Ivar Halfdansson Earl of Uplands 770 Oppland, Norway Halfdan "the aged" king of Sweden son of Sveide "the sea king" Heytirsson, horse Viking king 650 Raumsdal Norway Further down this kind Fornjotur king of Kvenland 160-250 Furniture the great king of Kvenland Also.referred to in the Orkneyingo Saga 1230 Old Russian tales.tell of a Finnish Prince who hired a giant to help him conquer Russia from Estonia to Kiev,the giants name was Calewa (Kaleva) After finishing this task the Prince gave the giant Kvenland as his own kingdom. Fornjut may be the Paper of the Kalevala.saga?? "The serpent beats the waves, and the eagle screams eagerly splitting corspes with its pale.beak. Naglfar, the giants ship, is released. That ship sails from the east, bearing giants over the se, and Loki is it's captain. The giants are coming!!..." Voluspa (the poetic edda) Fornjut had three sons, Hler known as Aegir, Logi, and Kari. Logi might also be Loki? As I found during my research the names recorded are slightly different in other searches? As well as the cira recorded as the time they were born?

He's English. They always pronounce things with the English letter variation. So, strictly speaking, in British English, j is pronounced with the silent g sound. In American English, we like to pronounce words the correct way, in their language of origin. So, when we say Mjolnir, we pronounce the J like y.

@@Dice_roller Maybe. He's called Hymir's son once, and Óðinn's more often. The most likely scenario is that Hymir was Týr's foster father and his wife, Hróðr, is his biological mother along with Óðinn as the biological father. Fostering a hero was a relatively common thing at the time, which adds potential for that possibility, as well as the fact that Týr was the top god before Óðinn became popular, so it would be odd for him to be knocked down to having just Jötunn as parents like Loki instead of being related to the main gods.
