Why are you saying "Am I understanding"? Isn't it a stative verb that cannot be used in continuous?

It can be used in the continuous form but it's not common. Are you sure said it?

Yes he actually used the verb Understand in the present continuous form while explaining the use of the phrasal verb: get through to Grammar books are intended to be a description of what a language’s features are not a set of rules which are set in stone. Bear in mind Mac Donald’s slogan: I’m loving it. Everyone can customize a language to add emphasis to a concept. Be creative!! ​@@tothepointenglishwithben.
