What was great about the early years of MuchMusic is that it helped promoting the Canadian music industry and its artists who for many the doors of the USA were still practicaly shut

Toy Soldiers was the song of the summer for me. So many memories. 1989 was so much more eclectic than I'd remembered. Can't believe Rhythm Nation only made it to #7!

Music music to me was like a bunch of cool Oder friends who would not only entertain, and share info on the music and artists, they also shared their wisdom with us te badgers at the time. They thought us to be more accepting of others. I remember watching RSVP with Michael Williams and someone had submitted a request in art form that he deemed was homophobic, called it out as such and refused to play the request. Looking back now, I can’t imagine how many queer kids saw that and for the first time felt accepted and defended for the first time in their lives. Thank you Erika, Michael, Steve, Kim, Steve, Teressa, Christopher, Denise, Laurie, and of course Master T. R.I.P. Dan Gallager. May you had been burred with a 6 slice toaster.

My main MuchMusic era was about 15-20 years later, at the very end of when they were still *that way* and I feel exactly the same about their influence on me as a kid.

Roy Orbison on a MuchMusic countdown. Crazy times.

They always threw curveballs. Even in my day they were playing Johnny Cash's Hurt video alongside the Britneys and Justins. In 2016 I caught their year end countdown (maybe the last year they did one?) and David Bowie's Lazarus video was number one. I thought, maybe some spark of the old Much is coming back. Then they gave up on music entirely -_-

Thanks for making this!! I love watching compliations of old charts but they are always based off US lists. This is the first KZbin account I've seen doing retro Canadian charts. Keep it up!

Seems Canada had just as big a grudge against Queen as the US had, as they are notably missing here.

I wouldn't call it a grudge, but yeah, they just didn't seem to be as popular over here for some reason, at least at the time. Their label didn't market them properly? Another One Bites the Dust was a pretty big hit in Canada though and Queen did tour here, so they had a fanbase. And it was a Canadian, Mike Myers, who kickstarted Queen's recognition in NA when Bohemian Rhapsody featured in Wayne's World in 1992. Another thing that spurred interest in Queen was the tribute concert for Freddie. Sad that he had to die to get noticed over here.

Can you reupload the videos of all the songs from the 1985, 1986, or 1987 MuchMusic Countdown?

I would if I could, I'm afraid the records for the years before 1988 aren't available.
