Tori has the greatest vocal of this generation... a queen amongst queens

Wonderful reaction. You have, IMO, accurately zeroed in on one of the key elements that distinguish Tori as a vocalist, that being that she is truly an "old soul". Dan Wesley has commented in other reactions to his collaborations with Tori that she doesn't just appreciate these songs, she truly knows how to sing them. And this rendition is a sparkling example of that. The note she holds just before they go into the first chorus makes my heart melt every time I hear it. Thank you for covering this, and thank you Joe for all the amazing requests.

It's fascinating because Dan Wesley, a multi-instrumentalist musician and producer in the UK, started out by simply doing a couple of reaction videos to Tori Holub vis-à-vis her covers of Karen Carpenter and Olivia Newton-John. However, this ultimately led to Tori (who is in the U.S. and is a musician and student of music production) getting in contact with Dan. Together they resolved on recording their individual parts on different sides of the Atlantic Ocean in order to put together a full rendition of "It's Impossible," a song of which Karen Carpenter sang only a part during a TV appearance with her brother Richard and Perry Como. They followed that wonderful cover with this song related to Olivia Newton-John. The harmonies certainly sound as if Tori and Dan were singing the duet in a single sound booth. It's striking how good they managed to make it turn out, a testament to the musicianship and production skills of both. Cliff Richard is enormously popular in the UK and elsewhere. Here in the U.S., we don't know him nearly as well, but Cliff did score some solo hits with "Devil Woman" in 1976 and "We Don't Talk Anymore" in 1979 that I do recall getting a lot of radio airplay in the States.

Hi Mrs. R! Wonderful reaction though you stopped short. It was going mention that this is a single and out on the big streaming services! You know I have my iTunes copy! 😊 Have to fund Dan’s early retirement program! He’s amazing yes, he’s all the other instruments, he also writes and produces and he produced and edits this and the previous one. He has a bunch of videos on his channel. As for Tori, this is the first long form where she played an instrument AND covered an Olivia song. She plays in order of her expertise; Guitars acoustic and electric, keyboards, and wait for it , drums. She says for the drums she “can keep a beat.” So no Mr. Guder, Carpenters solo just yet. She has a short on Instagram where she covered “Crazy On You” by ❤. She played 4 members of the band including BOTH sisters. Any of her Beatles covers has her on a keyboard but “Now & Then” is her wow! And also a bunch of Olivia covers, so not a surprise to her range. Her short cover of “Sam” is just magical as is “Magic.” “Suddenly” is from the 1980 movie Xanadu. Cliff Richard is still with us and a huge star though more so in the UK. So now all the folks who say she doesn’t sound like Karen can say, what exactly? In checking out the original video to Suddenly, I notice Tori is singing “higher” than Olivia. So she can tippy toe at the edge of Contralto to Soprano I have no idea what that means but it’s something I’m sure. All I know is the gal can sang. Thanks again for a fun reaction! Joe

Thanks Joe! Sorry I stopped short! I usually try to stop them before they click over, but I guess my best bet is to just let them!

@@MrsRealisticsome reactor once said about seeing if there’s a “side hustle” at the end! LOL, well the announcement that there’s a single, I guess qualifies. 😊

@@PopHorizonScannerthank you for your kind words. All I can ask is spread the word. I can’t do it alone and look at The Warning. We have Tori’s Troops, but we ain’t no Army. 😊 If you haven’t seen it, go through my name to my channel. I recorded Tori at the 55th and link a bunch of related videos.

Dan really knows his scales. John Farrar wrote this masterpiece, which doesn't even stay in the same key in the verse, then the chorus comes in and cadences unexpectedly to go back into the verse. Not your typical dominant to tonic cadence. And don't get me started on the bridge. My point is that Dan navigated this brilliant composition using myriad instruments. But you already picked up that he seems to be able to play everything. I think he's brilliant. And Tori's no slouch in the equipment department. You can see her on the guitar, but you can't see that she's created dozens of covers in her own studio, using multitrack decks for overdubbing and the pro-level Pro Tools sequencing application. Oh yeah ... she sings too. :) One thing about Tori that stands out to me is that she can use her chest voice to go high and goes into head voice only in a pianissimo segment of the song. And she doesn't get pinched and shrill like many big-time singers I've heard. Her vibrato is endless and effortless and doesn't trail off like, again, many big-time singers I've heard. Her range is expansive. You can tell by listening to her Carpenters covers, on which she does Karen's contralto range, whereas here she did Olivia's soprano range. Apparently you've heard her do Karen. Tori's rather impressive. You would think she'd not be able to navigate Olivia after doing Karen, but she spans both ranges, which is gobsmacking to me. I'm moved every time I hear her. Your comment about her being an old soul is right on. Every cover she does seems to indicate she's actually 20 years older than she actually is.
