BD Reacts To Tori Holub and James Wilkas "For All We Know"

Some singers are born with an uncanny ear for adopting the timbre and character of other singer's voices, just like natural impressionists can mimic the voices and gestures of famous figures. Tori seems to be one of those people, as she has very ably covered many songs by both Karen and Olivia, (not to mention Dusty and a number of others!). It's only a matter of time until we start to hear more of "Tori" in some new songs and arrangements beyond the covers. I'm surely looking foward to that!

This is her third collab with Jim the Midi Doctor, who is a genius in his own right. She has quite a history, and even can sound like Olivia Newton-John, as she did in a collab with Dan Wesley of Suddenly from Xanadu. She has several Christmas songs on her site, including two original "Carpenter's" type songs. Another rabbit hole you have happily found.

Oh my God, I am balling uncontrollably, so close to Karen. Thank you, dear lady for keeping their music and Karen's voice alive for this time. No, it was great. There is a slight difference in register, but who the hell cares? So important to keep her memory alive. Blessings, Tori and pls keep this music alive!

Her intonation is so spot on it's spooky. After years of being a Carpenters fan I never thought there would ever be anything like them ever again. Thanks to Tori and her team for breathing life back into the music we love. I'm sure Karen Carpenter would have been thrilled if she were still with us today.

i am 76 and lived through the amazing music of the 50s and beyond. music is a passion of mine since i was 6. i never was a carpenters fan. loved to go dancing from n sandiego county to tj in mexico. carpenters were soft rock and i always thought she was so dark. Tori has opened me to what i missed, she is so close to so many others after hearing her shorts. my mom could sing songs from the 20s and 30s that still ring in me ears so does Tori. random thoughts sorry

Nothing to be sorry about. You have it right. Tori can sing those songs and do them justice like no other. There are other good singers out there. Well, the few that don’t use pitch correction. Most do at least on their produced releases. Tori is a natural. No vocal training. A lot is by ear. Some listen say she doesn’t sound like Karen and leave in a huff. They miss the magic. You got it. Hi BD! It’s not often I find a reaction in my search that isn’t myself or my friend Ron. This was a joy and to see your reaction ❤❤❤. You got it, Tori is a phenom and I was introduced to her a year ago October. It was one of her short video Carpenters covers. I date back to 1970, I was 14 and bought Close To You as my first serious album. Tori is a rabbit hole in the making. She sings the songs of the 1950’s to 1980’s primarily. A few new ones like Now and Then from these whipper snappers The Beatles. Her own two originals or creations. She’s quite the audio engineer, also. BUT never uses pitch correction!! What you hear is all Tori. That’s her voice in her lower register. She’s made 3 Carpenters covers with Jim and when he found Tori added himself to her first self created video to add “more Richard.” So the others are We’ve Only Just Begun and Close To You (with full musicians on screen) and The Bacharach/David Medley that Jim saw and added himself to. All are on Jim’s channel,or linked from Tori’s channel under collaborations playlist. Now for her upper register. A UK Producer/musician/singer (the Jim across the Pond) Dan Wesley, he also discovered Tori via KZbin. He made a mini-documentary on her. In total awe of what he was seeing. He’s since that made two songs with Tori. It’s Impossible (Perry Como) but Karen sang one verse on a Perry TV Special in 1974. So that’s why. And now the upper register. They recorded Suddenly from the 1980 movie Xanadu. Originally sung by Cliff Richard and … Olivia Newton-John. Your mind was just blown on FAWK, wait for Suddenly. 😊 These are under collaborations on her channel. Oh and there’s more, Georgia On My Mind is another. And NO she doesn’t sound like Ray. Whew. This is going to be fun, I think. Welcome to the party! You’ve only just begun 😂 Also you were very perceptive, she gets grief from people saying she doesn’t sound like Karen, or sing in your own voice. Well, no two voices can ever be alike, true. It’s the fingerprint finger analogy, pull back and you see a finger and they look similar. That is her voice, when she sings her originals or covers of others, they say she sounds,like Karen singing songs she never sang. Yup. Oh and it was a wonderful reaction and thanks to the viewer who requested it. I bet they’re smiling ear to ear, like me. Merry Christmas! Oh and yeah, she covered Merry Christmas, Darling. @@AfterDarkBoys wonderful! You will not be disappointed. I started the journey last November 2023 when I couldn’t believe this voice had no reactions out there. Last April she was invited to sing at the Carpenters 55th Anniversary (8 acts), she was the youngest at 20. I was there. She’s 21 now. There is synergy that she’s Karen’s age for many of the songs. I’m going to send a message on another place, if I say it this goes poof. Joe

I can tell the difference between the two, but Tori probably comes the closest to Karen's voice vs. others. Tori is someone special. 🙂

Karen Carpenter is my all time favorite and I have a hard time listening to Tori because I feel I'm being so disloyal, but I can't help it because she sounds SO much like her. She really is so talented. Love your videos. Thanks for the reaction.

@@Sammyt97❤ actually she doesn’t as much emulate as when it’s a Carpenters song she adds Karen inflections. When she sings anything else and it is her voice, half the comments still say, she’s Karen. It’s just how she sounds. I’m just glad I’m here for the ride. I hope she can ignite and have a career. Or she just goes to college and becomes the audio engineer she wants to be or a music teacher.

Want to increase the experience of listening to Tori, use a set of good quality headphones, for me it brings out the intricate details of her voice and the performance. Mind blowing.

I prefer to use my B&W cans. Though my home theatre front speakers (LCR) aren’t a “brand” if ya know what I mean. So she sounds great on those, too. When I want to go big, I totally agree with the concept and have been living it for over a year. Joe Edit: Have you noticed since It’s Impossible she’s been using her U87. So we get ALL the sound. Though that Blue was shooting above its weight class.

Tori is a great singer, but not in the same league as Karen. Her expressive side is somewhat lacking in certain parts. However, she is marvellous.

Understood, but you have to remember that Tori has only been a musician and singing for a couple years. At the same point in her career Karen had been with her brother's band and signing for 4 or 5 years.
