Kenji's teriyaki criteria so far: Prefers Japanese style rice, sticky but not mushy Salad in a separate container, dressing not too sweet. Gyoza: ideally potsticker style with fresh dumplings, but deep fried can also be good if the skins are crispy and not greasy or tough. Sauce- can be any style as long as it's not too sweet. Chicken: thighs, marinaded and grilled fresh, chopped then sauced and served (no chopping then reheating).

All solid criteria. As someone who's eaten more Seattle teriyaki than I could ever hope to tally, those are what I look for.

Just want to thank Kenji for this recommendation - a month ago I went to Seattle for the very first time and tried both this place and Paseo's, which Kenji also recommended in a separate video. Both were phenomenal and I wouldn't have tried had it not been for these videos. Thanks for these reviews and also for showcasing the beauty of Seattle! Definitely was a big influence in me finally deciding to visit.

I don’t live in the US but this is one thing I will always be jealous about. The food culture is amazing. You can eat anything you want I love it. Here in Germany if you don’t live in Berlin you barely get like so much international food
@gabelstapler19

If you're in a large city, yes. In small town America you usually have a few fast food options at best. I'd trade all the McDonald's, Subways, and Taco Bells for a Dönerladen within 500km of me.
@thelegoplumbers62
@thelegoplumbers62 8 ай бұрын
@@gabelstapler19 The thing is, if you live in Germany, Döner places are the *only* good/decent places to eat that won't charge you an arm and a leg. Eating out in Central Europe is on a whole other level of bad.

As an American living in Germany (going on 9 years), I wholeheartedly agree. Coming from Chicago, even Munich is a downgrade, though here there are really good options, they're just pricier and not as good on the whole.

I finally went to visit, the teriyaki and gyoza plate was the best thing I ate in Seattle by far. I ate it for lunch and went back for dinner. I never finish rice when it's served with a meal like this but I ate every last grain because it was just so good. I liked this neighborhood/area way more than downtown across the bridge too. Really nice over there.

I used to work about a block and a half away from there and works go there almost weekly. The prices, like most places, have SKYROCKETED. I used to be able to get chicken and gyoza for like $13, but I went there the other day (first time in a long time since I don’t work nearby any longer) and was shocked to pay $21 for that combo after tax and slight tip. The food was still absolutely amazing. I will continue to stand by my claim that this is the best teriyaki in Seattle.

So glad you went here! Definitely one of my favorites. It's outside of Seattle, but if you're ever up north you should consider trying Ta Joia! in Bothell. No hype, but their spicy chicken along with their cilantro sauce and pico de gallo are all amazing. Maybe not "traditional" teriyaki, but to me it's worth the trip. I've been consistently craving teriyaki every day since you've been uploading these. Keep up the great work!
