Thank you! I am going to start a SubQ injections for my dog soon, and because of what I've learned from you I'm not going to rush into it! Tonight we will start cooperative care training and we'll start the medication when she's ready.

6:28, or is it all of the above? I think that oftentimes when we see a serious fearful CER, it's likely due to multiple aspects of the trigger. It probably started with one aspect, and now all of the other aspects are poisoned.

Wonderful podcast as always! This gives me a few things to work on like "head down" and not being afraid to walk into the bathroom where Bessie gets her baths. Thank you Susan.

I think it's also important to remember that many people who force their dogs to do certain things or endure certain things (like cutting nails or going to the vet) have good intentions. They try to take care of the dog's health needs and don't want to make the dog scared and upset. I totally agree that consent is important, and forcing the dog is unfair and mean, and even cruel depending on the situation, but a lot of people have good intentions.

Really loved this podcast, a real eye opener. I am going to start woek on this straight away... only a few weeks ago we had to give Quincy probiotics from a tube and it totally freaked him out having something put in his mouth like that... thankfully he thought the paste was yummy so I fed it to him on a spoon, but your tips take it one step further. Thank you so much ❤

My rescue startles from being lightly touched by her buddy-cat when the young dog is asleep and she 16:55 snaps big. I’m thinking start with her drowsy, touch lightly from a safe distance, and reward with favorite cheese. Incremental stages of drowsy to sleep? Making sure cats are no where near. Thoughts?

I am working my way through ALLLL of the old podcasts and LOVING them seriously. But listening to this I had a question. If you are building these things up to build the positive CER, for things like tooth cleaning etc, what do you do until the CER is built up as in you can;t just not clean your doogs teeth for months while you build the response etc or same with nail trimming. I think it;s fantastic and as a wannabe dog trainer this is all amazingly insightful btu i ouwld like to ask that question.

Hello, thank you for this episode. I just wondering what if I haven't too much time to go through all these layers and need to care my dog from the first day in our house. My future Dobermann will be with cropped ears and I will need to maintain them daily. I don't see any other way just to take him, do what I need to do, giving her some threats if she sits well or just sit at all. It is absolutely is not the way that you are talking here. What to do in this case?

Maybe don’t cut your dogs ears up and you won’t have that issue 🙃

I have a question. My doodle is so matted and needs a bath but I don't want to undo any progress I'm making working on conditioning better responses, what do I do? I will work on the scratch pad since his nails are also too long while we're working on pedicure please.

@huios100 Pedicure Please is a great foundation for husbandry for our dogs it's just the equipment you are conditioning that changes, and the position our dogs will be in. Susan's video on helping dogs enjoy water can apply to bathing: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pZbbhHlji5h4gsk Susan has a great podcast where she talks about consent in training, and how we can work around being able to train our dogs while not undoing what they already know. My dog hates going to the vet and have shots, and there were also aggressions shown on his visits. I tried to help but it isn't really working. Is there a video on this to help?

I have a question...while you are working on changing the CER, how do you do the necessary procedure that must be done without ruining your progress?
@RaptorsGirl3 жыл бұрын
I would avoid it or come up with an alternative. For example nail cutting you can teach your dog to use a scratch board.
