I grew up watching and eventually being friends with some of the only filipinos I knew in the bboying scene - that scene being toronto. And these crews being Bag Of Trix and Supernaturalz. Being content that north america birthed some of the best filipino's bboys it never occured to me how/when exactly the scene in my native Phillipines was growing. North america had enough talent for me to watch, until unfortunately only a few remained. So watching this with an open eye I was pleased to see

@Mark198d I'm FilAm as well, and I remember watching Showtime and saw these guys copy Poreotics clothing and even did some moves from a routine. It's not that they intentionally bite like how we see intentional bites, but that they don't understand that it's wrong, kinda like how some bboys are when they first start and are oblivious to the term bite. I strongly believe sooner or later the Philippines will emerge like how Korea and Japan blew up almost a decade ago.
@rjkoolraul13 жыл бұрын
Quick to hate but slow to educate. Unless you're taking action to your words on "educating these kids about biting" and "being original", all you're doing is perpetuating unnecessary hate. Let's be happy that we have a younger generation showing interest in an art form that WE ALL can contribute to. Shouts to Funk Roots for keeping it true all the way through. "Speak the truth even if your voice trembles." respect, -r

Probably on the hypest battles I've ever dj'd. Though there were a lot of bites and crashes, you have to keep in mind what stage of bboyin' the Philippines is in. Back in the day NY bboys used to recycle moves from other dance styles and just bug out. What you're watching is PI bboys recycling moves and (literally) buggin' the F' out. The video doesn't do the battle justice. This was beyond hype. respect, -r

Yeah there may have been some moves or steps that were done by other bboys around the world, but we also need to pay attention to the passion, fire and countless amount of little things done here that was very original! And although yes some bboys here watch youtube (like everyone else), the truth is that the bigger percentage of them don't have that luxary and break because its all they got, not cuz they want to be famous.
something that I hadnt until 2011. Which was a FLOOR WARS battle featuring a crew from the Phillipines. (Sorry I dont remember their name even) But its always interesting to see this - which is when bboying (or art in general) breaks into a new country, one quickly asks "who are that regions pioneers?" and "which, if any, people from the more experienced bboy countries, were the most influential to this budding scene?"

get the style, not the exact move. not just for bboys but for all dancers. All of us dancers were once biters. but the important thing is how we can improve and evolve our own style and know what our own style is. successful artists were once biters themselves until they came up with they're own styles.

some people may call a move a bite but it depends on the persons perspective on what a bite is and is not. I know originality is important there are other things to consider like foundation, dynamics, execution and strategy(OUR system).

thats excluding the extremely talented ones that make that happen in less time. But so the next question remains - "why would people break/bboy if theyre just doing someone else's moves?" but the deeper mind finds fault in that. The focus area isnt really in what they (the new scene) is doing, its - do they have the heart and soul and approach to keep this artform alive for the coming years after its inception. If a bboy works hard enough, he will eventually find his own style

@xBoneXBBoy I can't speak on how things were in Korea, but as a Filipino-American with relatives in the Philippines and access to Filipino television here in the US, what I am seeing is biting is rampant in the Philippines. Not just in bboying, but also in TV, music, and other forms of dance. I feel if people don't call them out for biting, you are enabling them to continue to do it. I'm proud of my heritage, but it seems native Filipinos don't think it's that important to be original.

lets be honest, again, I myself am filipino. And there is definitely biting from both sides in this battle. This time saying that weirdly enough- thats not necessarily a negative thing. A trained eye to watching any new scene pop up will recognise that - more often than not, crews will look similar to other bboys in the game. Anyone experienced in this culture know that sometimes bboys will train 8-10 years and not find their personal style until then even.

@Mark198d It's like how korea started off kinda sorta. BBoying is still in early stages in the philippines, and theyre even struggling in their own lives trying to dance. Otherwise you would see filipino bboys from the philippines battling internationally, not including filipinos from outside PI like ronnie or mouse. Every country almost as their own identity in bboying, its only a matter of time before the Philippines does
