I wouldn't call him cheap. I would say he had a lot of respect for a hard earned dollar and made it his mission for his career to make sure the fan got their moneys worth. For that alone he's better than LeBron or any other small forward

I am a drummer and Buddy Rich was one of the most supremely confident people ever and Larry Bird is that same type of person. Not too many people have that confidence and can back it up.

Funny thing is that Danny was the one that ended up getting traded. I do wonder what kind of return they could have gotten for those 3 at that time....

He ruined his back, altering and shortening his career forever, doing menial labor [either roofing or shoveling gravel, I forget], or there would be no Larry vs LeBron argument....Larry from about 84 - 88 eats Lebron's lunch, all day, every day risking a multimillion dollar body doing 10 buck an hour work yourself is CHEAPNESS SQUARED...Larry grew up dirt poor. It's like that sometimes. Personalities don't change with the bankroll[Larry was the highest paid rookie ever when he first signed with the Celts]

PorkFrog the problem is when you are measuring these 2 two greats one of Lebrons greatest strengths up to this point is his longevity. The argument could be made that he is still getting better.

Speaking of college years, look up Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's UCLA stats and awards. Michael Jordan was barely played when he was at North Carolina. Even before his(I believe) ankle injury. Dean Smith missed the mark on that one. James Worthy played at Chapel Hill some of those years. It's perspective. Basketball players who played college vs. Lebron James, who came in without college experience at all. So, Lebron's longevity was from being an 18 yr old first year player.
