Paul, the sparking is caused by the brushes and the blown fuse/tripped breaker might be because the motor needs more current than your circuit was fused for I.e. 20 amp motor on a 15 amp circuit. That was a OLD chop saw, as it did not have a blade brake.
@ww3212 жыл бұрын
Sorry Paul. The saw pulls a lot of current. Amps make horsepower and the Sparks are from lack of use. Oxidized and dirty commutator that the brushes run on. Have a Merry Christmas Paul 😁

I think keeping as much as possible out of the landfill is most important thing to do even if there is a little more plastic or rubber on the scrap. Another option is to remove plastic or rubber before dropping it off at the scrap yard. Optimize your investment into the scrap and keeping out of landfill.
@GuyWithTheDogs2 жыл бұрын
White Glove treatment at the scrap yard! You have become a VIP. 👍 Years ago I was a manufacturer's rep for Revere Ware cookware. One year they manufactured a metal pan that was microwave safe. I haven't used it in years, but when I did, I mostly used it to freak people out. Some of them wouldn't stay in the room with the microwave while it was in use with that pan in there. 😊 As I recall, it was all about the lip of the pan. Rather than curling the edges like all of the other Revere Ware pans, the lip of the pan is just a gentle curve so it doesn't trap the microwaves and make sparks.

I've read other comments about the "sparking" in that chop saw motor. It usually normal. That said, if the sparking looks like it is going all the way around the armature, not it just a small area, there may be a problem/ the other thing is you have it plugged into a very light power strip. That is not made to run power equipment. I would suggest plunging it into an outlet by itself, maybe one with a heavier breaker, or fuse. If it still pops the circuit, there may be a bigger problem.
@bigteddy662 жыл бұрын
@@_RocketRooster the last part of your comment is funny in part I agree but here in the UK the same used to be said about American built stuff. Still is to a degree. Most new stuff unfortunately is crap built everywhere.

Some metal is used in microwave ovens - and it will not cause arcing. Some have a metal shelf, temperature probes, or other minor uses. The metal that is used has to be grounded - or isolated - or made up of metals that do not react to the microwaves. Position can determine where metal can be placed. Yes- putting metal into the microwave is a no-no. But some metal that is located and provided by the manufacturer is safe to use.

The motor sparking is normal. its a brushed motor. you are seeing the E jump the gap between the motor and the brushes. Sell the saw. it seems to be working fine. it popping the breaker is also normal. its likely a shared circuit and tools like that really should be run on their own circuit because of how much power they command. Most of your tools might not spark because they are likely brushless. if you look inside that old dewalt reciprocating saw you got and toggle the button a few times you will likely see sparks in their too as its likely also a brushed motor.

I’m in N, Texas, it’s supposed to 80 on Christmas Day. Highly unusual for here on Christmas. Son and his family live in Spokane, they have snow. By the way when I was a kid around ten and living in west Texas, my dad worked on oil rigs and he would bring home all kinds of scrap which he told me to get out it of the car, and before school started the next fall we would sell the scrap and use the proceeds for school clothes which were usually made by my aunt who was a master tailor. Merry Christmas, Paul.
