Monica Bellucci is such a beauty, for me she is the epitome of the 90s babe. Her makeup style is basic 90s, just light cheek bone contour, natural thick brow, black liner and brown lip. I have been wearing my makeup like this since 1993, when I first picked up an eyeliner pencil. It never goes out of style.
@JMeLuNez Жыл бұрын
My favorite look on her was when she had red lips & smoky eyes w/ champagne shimmer eyeshadow. But your right, for most days, her simple look worked great for her as black liner matched her hair color & neutral lips & blush were not too far from her natural lip & skin color. It's too bad black eyeliner doesn't work universally like black mascara usually does.

Mature skin ppl: if you have a lot of spots, faded freckles, etc, I've found it helps to think of my skintone as a point between my "base" skintone and my sun damage. When i sheer out blush, i make sure it's darker than my base but lighter than my spots. Covering them doesnt really transform me, ive found it's better to just work with the warmth they add and try to blur them into the background. Once i started paying attention to contrast, my makeup looks so nice and natural and not so garish and tacky or aging. I still wear deep and bold colors but use techniques to soften contrast with color and texture (shine esp).

This is incredible. Just the other day I was trying out an eyeshadow look I saw on Emma Stone, because we have similarly hooded eyes (quite a bit of smooth real estate on the hood, very little visible mobile lid), and I figured it could work for my eye shape, and I matched it pretty well, but it ended up looking so effing extra and dramatic and OTT on me, and kinda like I was using double the space and color she was, and it took me a while but I came to the conclusion that the shape was good but the colors were wrong, and now I understand *why* the colors were all wrong for me and how to potentially fix it. Tomorrow I'm definitely giving it another try. Thank you so much!

Fantastic tutorial! Thank you. Watching YT for 10 years only proves what I already knew: sheer desaturated shades are best for my pale skin, particularly now that my eyelids have all but fallen. I tend to prefer my natural round eye shape and am fine with not wearing a smokey eye … ever. The darkest I can manage is a light mid-tone. Anything darker and I look like a clown. This is what YT and TikTok don’t tell you. Also that it’s not always eye color that determines what color eyeshadow to wear.

The shape of features (+skin tone) is also important. I'm a very fair redhead with soft features, totally pale eyebrows and eyelashes and hooded/close set/slightly protruding eyes with significant undereye circles. It makes me sad but I just cannot do any bold eye looks - they are too overwhelming for my eyes and coloring. I used to be able do do a nice cat eye with green or navy liner on the top of my eyes and it would open them up, but as I've aged and my eyes have gotten more hooded, it just makes them look smaller. Here's what works for me now: always emphasize my eyebrows, use mascara only on my upper lashes, a light concealer or skin tint on the lid, super light taupe eyeshadow on the outer part of my eye and sometimes a little shimmer right in the middle of the eye. It's such a drag, bc I wish I could do all the eye looks I see folks with bigger/more open eyes do. Boo hoo. But it is freeing knowing what looks good on you and why. This was really helpful and at some point it'd be great to see you do this with women in their 40s-50s.

The Huda Beauty Brown Toffe palette is that palette for me with all these traits. It has all the brows and yellows I can find on my skin. It always looks kinda natural but still super glam. In some way it's even a bit to light/monochromatic. And thanks to my black brows, black liner on my eyes never looks too much. It also has the light desaturation that, I recently found out, I need.

Girl your channel has changed my life, and this was one of the most enlightening so far! Would you ever consider doing a similar video but for choosing hair colour ?

Alex I have loved your channel for several years now and I highly recommend you go down the fascinating rabbit hole of Kibbe body/face types. It’s so much more in depth than just saying “hourglass” or “pear”, and the same concept can be applied to face shapes and there’s a whole world of makeup artistry and exploration open for business here. I know I’d LOVE to see a “soft gamine makeup” video from you cause tbh you’re the only one I trust nowadays, everyone on YT is so money grubby and they obviously don’t practice what they preach and you’re super above board with the stuff you do off camera. Love you!

This is so educational ! I learn to draw recently and thus I am aware of the impact of colour contrast and value but I remember times when I was trying to copy someone's makeup and it failed exactly as you explain it and I didn't know why. I think only Lisa Eldritch is mentioning this often that some colors she uses shoud be different for different skin tones. But you explained it in much systematic way pointing not only to skin tones but also hair and eyes. And you mention the technique of squinting ! Squinting is crucial for artists to asses tones in the picture and the same applies to face makeup but I believe you are first saying this.

This is pretty much the advice that I give people for makeup travel. If you have multi use items like highlighter that can also be used on eyes/etc it helps. You can do a full look with just 4 colors
