0:39 I will never stop being dumbfounded by the fact that the number 0, as a concept, was a discovery. Stuff like negatives and fractions too, feel too intuitive and necessary to imagine a world without them

So many Arabs mistakenly believe that the Eastern numerals are like foreign Indian numerals while the Western ones are not and tey to change which ones they use. While in reality they both originate in India and in the Eastern countries the more "traditional" numbers are the Eastern numerals

The one who invented those numbers (0--->10) is al Khawarizmi , know better

Yes, I'm sure al Khwarizmi came up with the system completely independent of the exact same Indian decimal system that evolved centuries earlier.

@badroboudjerda4394 yes and then the west made the system they adopted through the north african conquest of iberia and western numerals continued to evolve in shape and were barely used outside of europe and north africa and the rest of asian and african empires either had no numerals or one of their own or adopted a version of the original ancient Indian numbers or got them like how Europeans got it through contact with arabs/persians/levantines etc who traded or invaded places and it wasn't until the west dominated the world that the western numerals became basically standard 0123456789 and most other systems are held for heritage etc but not really use unless im ignorant on this point 😊

in Persian (at least in Iran) we still use the eastern arabic version of numbers, it's very rare for someone to use the western style in documents or in writing unless its in texting with others
