I didn't realize Jack fruit gets fruit 3+ years from seed, that's great. I'm trying to plant as many quick fruiting plants and trees I can. I'm a little dryer than you so I have a hard time getting things going but once they do they take off. I'm hoping within the next 6 months I can provide 75% of my food from the land. Your videos are very inspiring!

I can highly recommend to look for some indian recipes for unripe jackfruit and/or jf-seed dishes. Yes, the latex is a little bit annoying, but the taste is SO worth it. 🤤

Most Asian countries use jackfruit as a curry/vegatable dish . It is harvested before it becomes sweet , it is much like a tender meat absolute delicious

Yummy! I hope my seed grown varieties will be good when they finally begin to produce. I love toasting the seeds with sea salt and garlic oil or Hawaiian chili oil.

Great video. I put my jack fruit in the refrigerator overnight before processing. It seems to reduce the latex by at least 75%. Not everyone will have that much fridge space . It sure makes processing it less messy.

Wow that’s a great tip! We will try that next time if we can make space in the fridge

I've done this too. Cooling it causes the sap to become a solid. Molecular science is fun

I would love to buy some from you....I believe I might be close to you all. I've watched your videos before we moved here. I've no been able to get a fully ripe one yet. I've cooked a green one and made the pulled pork with a green jackfruit. What a mess that was, but I did cover everything with plastic and used pam spray and worked ok.

Hi, I was watching your video about having mold in your shipping container home after hurricane Lane. I was wondering if you are still in your container home? Are you still battling a mold problem? Have you tried using vinegar on the mold. My experience from living in Florida is to use vinegar full strength, but my wife thinks you should dilute it. Anyway, looking forward to your next video, cheers.
@OffGridHawaii11 ай бұрын
Aloha, we still live in the shipping container. Cleaning with diluted vinegar really helps to wipe surfaces. The mold hasn’t been a big issue since we started using more fans and exhaust fans through out the day and mopping the floors more regularly.

We are at about 1500’ in Puna. We have a 2 year old tree planted with black cinder/soil mix on top of rocky grass……it has shot up like a rocket and I topped it last February. In your opinion, do you think I have a good chance of getting fruit up here….We also have two Ulu planted same way…not sure variety but they are same age….hoping for fruit🤙

If your knives get really gummed up, and if you have a gaz stove, you only need to hold the blade over the flame for a few seconds and then wipe it clean. Voilà.

Wesley Coconut oil, is there a BJ's on the Big Island?
@OffGridHawaii11 ай бұрын
Nope I don’t even remember where this oil came from, probably Ross dress for less 🤙🏾😊

@@OffGridHawaii Wesley farms is a BJ's brand. They do have some organic items like the Coconut oil and Maple syrup. Some items are hard to get once you're on the islands. I've bought organic Spiralina, Cocoa and Maca at Ross.
