The house is actually the one thing to make sure you can buy twice, that’s why people save up for mortgages. Let me tell you something girl. You have just uncovered the truth. But sadly not everyone thinks like that. Not everything that shines is gold so what I mean by that is really focus on what you need rather than superficial stuff that will gratificate you temporarily but in the long term it will make you suffer. So be wise and spend life learning and knowing what's best for you in the long term. The system is built to make you spend ridiculous amounts of money so that the rich get richer and the poor gets poorer. But the wise folks make it through it because you can. It just takes self discipline
@aspirehigher63685 жыл бұрын
It really depends on who you had around you. Schools absolutely didnt teach it and not only that but some of the ways we even handle money today is far different than how it was when I was coming up so they wouldn't even know how to teach it yet even if they intended to. However, because I watched my parents I learned many good habits from one of them and saw many bad habits with the other one and I adopted the good and avoided the bad. But still struggled, for example, I too thought it was best to just not get a credit card but I had no idea how they work or what credit even meant and how having one could help me IF I USED IT RESPONSIBLY and paid it all the way off all the time because the longer you have a card and keep it in good standing, the higher your credit score rises so the only way it'd be a problem is if I wasnt paying my bills but without it no matter how many bills I'd pay it wouldn't increase my credit. I'd just seen so much debt with some people that I wanted to avoid every form of credit and loans but in reality, even loans can boost your credit if you actually pay them off correctly and I just never knew any of that. Im glad I do today. I'm 30 and got my 1st card at almost 27 yrs old. I have 2 now. Still avoiding loans because of their interest but I am no longer afraid of it how I used to be. Times are changing in some schools thankfully because one of my nieces is even learning about the stock market.

All the money u save from not eating out, watch the $ number go up! 7. Save with the 50-30-20 income rule: 50% should go to overhead. 30% should be unfixed (clothes, gifts, etc) 20% should be saved. 8. Have good credit. Have a credit card and always pay back. Whew chile! This was a word and right on time! I was ok am upset with my husband that we can't afford to go somewhere for our 5th year anniversary ESPECIALLY since we didn't go on a honeymoon. He looked me dead in my face and said, well if you stop spending money on stuff you don't need we can save and go somewhere. I was distraught, like how dare you tell me what to do with my (our) money. But after having a come to Jesus moment with myself; I had to REALLY check myself. I had to admit he was right and in order for us to go on trips and do the things I want us to do, I can't be all up in Homegoods and Target making it rain. I appreciate you for sharing some tips and I will make sure to pick up the book you mentioned.

Hi 👋🏼 You should look up Dave Ramsey. He talks about using an envelope system where you put cash in it to use for the month. It helped me to stop using my debit card and just use the cash that I allotted for myself as an “allowance.” My husband put me on. We do this together. Then there’s an app called Every Dollar. Before you know it, you will take your much needed vacation. ❤️

Yes!! Was always told never to get a credit card growing up and got one a few years ago. Seeing my bill really opened my eyes on how much I spend every month and you can earn points too! Of course it helps build up your credit but if you're going to spend the money, might as well get points for it!

Thank you Adrienne for sharing all of these HIGHLY important tips!! It’s interesting because I was literally just reading about improving your credit or how to avoid messing up your credit the other night! lol It’s definitely a challenge to spend (or even save) smart when you really want to indulge or spend lavishly and forgetting about the BIGGER picture/life GOALS! Stay sweet and REAL!! 🤗😊❤️🙏🙏

@@alleiajames8229 I hope you find it helpful. I also recommend having a 401k with Ariel Investments, started by Melody Hobson. Their funds generally outperform the S&P 500 index fund, and it supports a Black owned business. I think she stepped down as president after she married George Lucas, but she gives great financial advice as well.
