Glad to see Will getting some visibility on Alan’s channel. Will’s training, style, and philosophy is very inspirational to me. It’s helped me simplify my training, make it more fun, and make real progress.

I think S&C content is less popular than powerlifting because powerlifting is easier and most commercial gyms can support powerlifting. Personally I want to get way more in S&C type lifting/exercising, but my gym isnt well setup for it. I do pylos/sprints, but I feel awkward trying to learn OLY lifts in a commercial gym.

Alan, loved this “podcast” and would love to see more content like this in the future, a lot of great information! I’m obviously not an interview pro. I think you can improve by asking your question and then letting the guest answer. You are probably aware of this already because your videos and content are always excellent, but you did a lot of asking a question, then framing how Will should answer. Ask the question and then let him go. Just my viewpoint and again, I really enjoyed this and hope to listen to more like this from you!

That dunk a basketball goal was one I always strived for but never made it to. At 42, 6’0”, about 30 lbs overweight, and a light CrossFit/cardio/minimal strength training history, I wonder how likely I can to get the dunks going?! Going for it, hold me accountable Alan KZbin friends!! I’ll check in each month or quarter years

I was embarrassed to do the trap bar DL for years, decades even. At 6’4” and 39 years old while having proportionally longer legs than an upper body, the trap bar DL is now a great tool on the belt to have.

Powerlifting is the most accessible, and is the sinplest to program. There are only three lifts, so the complexity is already low. And there is a very specific and measurable goal: highest one rep max. Easy to measure, easy to program, every gym on earth has the equipment

Yeah that's the old school style that was used back before the squat snatch became a popular thing.

@GOAT-rl2uq thanks, I imagine more speed needed to make it happen -- looks tricky, I can barely do the split on a C&J.

What's the benefit of sitting down overhead press?
@etimezz3 ай бұрын
less fatigue from axial loading is a benefit, potentially easier to use good technique, maybe more stimulation of the target muscle groups because you can't 'cheat'.
@smebbo64353 ай бұрын
For me also it is easier to move my upper body in position for behind the neck presses
@Stonewallwells3 ай бұрын
Sitting on the floor removes any assistance from leg drive. It’s a different stress on your torso. If you haven’t done it before, give it a shot as press accessory. You’ll have to use less weight than you would for regular strict press.

It's the programming and coaching. I don't know how to program sprints and sustain it, and create space for it. Often you may have to add a new location to do sprints. Or if I show up to the track and say, "I'm starting sprints this week" there is nothing for me to stay mentally in it. Do I do the same thing again next week? Or do I have to sprint backwards. This is something a coach can really help with. Or some sort of random online bulketin, community where you check and find your weekly sprint/plyo to do list. It's about as engaging mentally as stretching, even if it's arguably more useful
@TheTopher5283 ай бұрын
Just do some sprints lmao, Jesus bro don't overcomplicate so hard
@droaks23 ай бұрын
@TheTopher528 brush your teeth, make your bed, call your mother, do your sprints. It's easy to say, but your brain isn't programmed to do. When you are like 12? You love sprints, but you are encouraged to do more fitness that has more mental engagement because you mentally need to learn the discipline and see the long term gains of running distance, progressive overload training with higher reps etc. Then you lose it and mentally forget it. I'm overcomplicating it, but am I really? The brain is the hardest muscle to train, and that's why I tell my co workers and colleagues why I train so hard at the gym. (I work at a research institution) because yeah, we all agree there is no need to deadlift 350 lbs in our day to day world, but the mental game to get there is what keeps you showing up to the gym.
